Responsibilities
What Will You Be Doing?
The Consumer Insights Director is the market research expert for The Container Store, utilizing leading market research techniques to create breakthrough insights, guide business strategies, and support broader company objectives. This position is responsible for serving as the “voice of the consumer” by leading customized qualitative and quantitative research including, but not limited to, brand health tracking studies, syndicated tracking, concept, product and copy testing and qualitative reads. This position will also champion insights into action by providing action-oriented recommendations derived from profound consumer insights & trends.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
• Determines the research resources utilized at The Container Store, maintaining a foundational compilation of internal and external research sources, syndicating multiple sources and performing analysis on them in a knowledgeable and thoughtful way
• Works with marketing teams to establish business and research learning plans, and builds collaborative partnerships with all cross-functional teams
• Develops a plan for regular business tracking and day-to-day insight identification, including managing bi-annual brand tracking studies, and building in-house capabilities to execute concept tests, qualitative reads, and copy testing
• Manages customer insights projects, ensuring the final deliverables are high-quality and provide impactful insights
• Maintains expert-level knowledge of emerging research trends and methodologies to derive valuable consumer insights that drive the business
• Synthesizes multiple data streams into distilled business-relevant insights through the execution of presentations and ideation/work sessions
• Manages consumer insights budgets

Qualifications
What You Bring To Us
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a consumer-oriented discipline (e.g., market research, operations research, statistics, social psychology, consumer psychology, business, or economics)
• 10+ years of professional experience, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance in consumer insights, market research, marketing and/or brand strategy is strongly preferred
• Experience managing brand health studies and custom research studies for National consumer-facing brands
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner
• Understanding of ethnography and behavioral science is highly desirable
• Combination of Retail/CPG and agency experience is highly desirable
• Understanding of various qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and techniques
• Experience utilizing and analyzing various business intelligence sources (custom consumer research, syndicated data, market level data, digital data, retailer customer data, and consumer trends) to help influence decisions and actions
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; must be personable yet persistent with strong listening and influencing skills
• Highly effective oral/written communication abilities with excellent presentation and storytelling skills
• Outstanding vendor management and project management skills
• Expert in distilling complex information and data into actionable recommendations
• Innovative thinker with a broad business view
