Job Description
The Director of Inventory – Monark provides leadership and direction to all planning and processes related to inventory at Monark. The position oversees is accountable for optimizing the inventory turns at Monark while ensuring stock available for customer needs. The Director is responsible for developing and executing a profitable, customer-focused strategy, while enhancing the overall department, group and company strategy. The Director is accountable for the development of a high performance, customer centric team. This position reports directly to the Vice President; Strategy & Business Planning. The position partners directly with the Director/General Manager in the development of processes to ensure that in-stock, inventory productivity and assortment productivity business goals are achieved.
Responsibilities/Skills/Experience Requirements
Oversees all inventory processes used to achieve key metrics on the balanced scorecard
Acts as the business administrator for the overall planning process
Partners with the Business Finance Manager on the resulting financial plan
Advises Director/General Manager on opportunities for improving inventory asset utilization to drive sales and margin
Represents planning and placement during executive level strategy and merchandise review sessions (profit pattern, merchandise/category strategy, etc.)
Supports business strategy by overseeing the overall financial plan
Incorporates modeling, situation analysis, problem diagnosis, and operations analysis to support business decision making with financial analysis
Participates in weekly and monthly in season business management meetings, presenting analysis, calling out issues and action items
Monitors inventory performance and directs appropriate mid-course corrections to achieve forecasts
Monitors the selection of appropriate allocation and replenishment strategies (weeks of coverage, review method, etc.)
Monitors and troubleshoots inventory levels at distribution center and store level
Maintains productive and supportive working relationships with stores, districts, regions and vendors
Represents business priorities with support organizations (Logistics, Finance, Merchandising)
Takes ownership for providing data integrity within areas of control
Develops associates through coaching, mentoring, performance management, talent management and succession planning
Identifies associate training and development needs
Participates in associate selection, interviews and placement
REQUIREMENTS:
-Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university; or four years related experience and/ or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
-5 - 7 years related just in timeinventory experience,
-Strong analytical and financial skills
-Motivation to meet or exceed financial plan
-Knowledge of financial, economic, accounting theory and statistical modeling techniques
-Detail oriented with strong managerial, planning, organization and project management skills
-Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize
-Ability to mediate differences of opinion and facilitate resolution when conflicts arise
-Ability to facilitate group discussion for maximum idea generation and problem solving
-Ability to participate actively in cross-functional initiatives and projects
-Excellent communication skills
-Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
-Ability to develop strong partnerships
-Demonstrated knowledge of industry practices and current trends
-Understands competitor strengths and weaknesses
-Solid understanding of merchandising, store operations, supply chain and marketing principles and their integration with the planning and placement activities
-Demonstrated ability to lead and develop associates
-Ability to develop best practices in performance management
-Ability to provide career coaching to team members
-Strong working knowledge of inventory, financial, inventory
-Strategic planning and performance monitoring process experience required
-Extensive experience in surfacing and evaluating strategic and operational issues and opportunities, at both the corporate and business unit levels
-Extensive track record influencing change within large, complex, multi-national companies
-A successful career progression, with a history of increasing levels of responsibility.
