It takes a knockout team to power a brand like Starbucks. Our dedicated team of writers, designers, and managers works to push the boundaries while also keeping it grounded. A typical week involves reaching customers through a range of creative, from personalized marketing to national campaigns, consisting of everything from single assets to cross-channel implementations. We’re never content with the status quo, but we’re also insistently strategic in what (and how) we change.
That’s where you come in. We’re looking for an inspiring and savvy Associate Creative Director to lead some very talented (and humble) individuals in driving creative that presents Starbucks at its very best. You’ll balance the daily grind (we don’t actually use many coffee puns) with an eye on the big-picture future of even more dynamic and personalized content.
Our ideal ACD has a strong background in writing, but is able to shape both written and visual content alike. No matter what we’re creating, keeping the customer experience at the forefront is vital to what we do and why we do it. We need a leader that will push beyond the conventional and go to bat for us when we’re proposing something off the beaten path. Duties and Responsibilities
• Serve as a standard bearer for Starbucks brand messaging and visual identity.
• Drive the strategy and execution for dynamic, personalized content.
• Able to manage and lead multiple teams and multiple business units.
• Can effectively sell creative concepts and influence across the Global Marketing Organization.
• Can confidently present creative concepts and rationales to senior leadership.
• Guide cross-functional teams to develop seamless experiences for the customer.
• Manage and guide outside vendors and agencies.
• Concept and collaborate with team leads, including creative managers, copywriters, designers, art directors, and illustrators.
• Nurture junior talent, providing clear direction and constructive feedback.
• Work with producers as a key point of contact for scheduling deadlines and helping to resolve resource and delivery issues.
• Work with marketing managers and planners to ensure creative concepts and tactics are on brand and strategically sound.
• Present and meet with clients of all levels – from junior brand managers to senior marketing clients.
Requirements
• A minimum of 8 years’ progressive experience in copywriting at an agency, design firm, or with an in-house Creative Studio.
• Plus, 5-7 years of experience managing a creative team.
• A masterful command of the craft of writing and design.
• Innovative and inspiring creative solutions across marketing channels. Experience across retail, advertising, digital and branded solutions.
• A firm understanding and appreciation of the complete customer experience, regardless of channel or medium.
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and to delegate work effectively.
• Mediation skills—necessary to maintain good team chemistry and relations, and to sort out interpersonal conflicts as they arise.
• A strong desire to do brand-building, product-selling, and award-winning work.
• An ability to discern individual team members’ abilities and to match the right people with the right work.
• Marketing sense – must possess an ability and a passion in developing campaigns that can work in retail, across channels -- as well as online.
• Demonstrated success presenting creative concepts to peers and leadership.
