Crate and Barrel is America’s most exciting housewares specialty retailer with 100+ locations and over 6,500 associates nationwide. We are seeking an experienced, committed and enthusiastic professional to join our Human Resources department, as a Director, Compensation & Retirement Benefits,located in our Northbrook, Illinois corporate offices.
• Provide strategic and operational leadership in the design, development, implementation, administration, and communication of compensation programs that align with the company’s strategic vision and objectives.
• Oversee development of a total rewards strategy by researching best practices and trends and perform analysis on effectiveness and competitiveness of existing compensation and benefits programs and present findings and creative solutions to management for associates in the United States and Canada.
• Oversee development of the company’s compensation philosophy and its application both generally and to particular positions as they change and evolve, and partner with other HR COEs, HRBPs and leadership to ensure compensation goals support business objectives.
• Lead the annual compensation planning cycles, providing expert guidance on the design, development and administration of executive, corporate, and field compensation programs, salary structures, base salary adjustments and short term and long term incentives.
• Oversee the annual compensation budgeting process, leading the team on bonus programs, variable plan designs, merit cycles, market data, management of the 401(k) retirement plan, ensuring strong governance and thought leadership in keeping ahead of market and designing innovative new programs.
• Continually analyze company compensation policies in relation to similar jobs in comparable industries or geographical areas/market conditions; recommend best practices and, as agreed, oversee implementation of changes appropriate to establish and maintain competitive pay rates and equity.
• Supervise team in conducting job analysis to determine appropriate market pricing; review and approve salary increases and advise management on compensation actions for associates.
• Proactively seek out and maintain a working knowledge of legislation that may affect compensation, benefits and payroll policies/practices; oversee and ensure the implementation of any necessary changes.
• Work with applicable departments to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Manage all aspects of performance and development of direct reports to encourage professional growth.
Required Skills
• 7 + years Compensation experience with relevant leadership experience; retail experience desirable
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; Master’s degree or CCP/SHRM/HRCI certifications preferred
• Demonstrated experience in compensation plan design and implementation with a proven ability to improve programs and practices to support business goals
• Excellent communication (written and verbal), presentation and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to effectively translate complex ideas and tailor key messages to multiple audiences
• Strong goal orientated leadership skills with exhibited ability to prioritize and operate in an ever-changing environment
• Ability to manage multiple projects with conflicting priorities while remaining highly organized and detail oriented
• Must have an ability to think strategically and objectively and effectively translate data into actionable insights
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google platform
• Excellent reading, written and verbal language skills (English)
