About this job:
The Packaging Designer designs and executes packaging for multiple products produced by Product Development within the Direct Imports division. Develops packaging solutions for new and existing products. Collaborates with Product Development teams or Merchandisers to understand product label and packaging requirements. Works with Product Development teams or Merchandisers to create packaging and drives consistency across packaging solutions, enhancing overall value of products. Drives concept to achieve consistent brand integrity. Collaborates with external partners, including agencies and overseas vendors to ensure execution of said concepts.
Responsibilities:
Packaging Design & Execution:
Resources and manages multiple, complex packaging projects simultaneously.
Work with Packaging Manager to adhere to timeframe and cost guidelines
Evaluates feasibility of design ideas and develops packaging solutions that highlight product features and benefits
Designs and engineers both interior and exterior packaging and graphics.
Ensures that packaging is attractive, high quality, communicates effectively, and is cost effective
Collaborate with Product Development teams or Merchandisers to effectively bring product to market while also educating on improvements to packaging for cost/aesthetic/functionality
Overall aesthetic for multiple brands
Produce production art
Agent/Vendor Communication:
Works with packaging counterparts at agents/vendors to execute all aspects of packaging and ensures design specifications are met
Directs corrective actions with agents and vendors to resolve packaging issues
Process Management:
Supports and adheres to Ross standardized Packaging processes
Tracks, records and proactively manages T&A for packaging projects
Works with Product Development VPs, Directors and Director of Operations to prioritize projects and workload
Proactively engages VPs and Product Directors on approval decisions to ensure timely approval of packaging
Updates Ross Packaging guidelines and standards, as needed
Continuously proposes ways to improve the packaging process
Market Knowledge:
Maintains knowledge of industry and packaging trends for current and future applications
Collaboration & Communication:
Advises and consults Product Development on packaging best practices to enhance business performance
Provides artistic direction and approval for photo-shoots
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering or related field
Minimum 5-7 years of direct experience designing and managing packaging at a large retail or wholesale company
Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
Proven track record of designing packaging and boxing solutions that are aesthetically pleasing, cost effective and functional
