Job Description
The Family Dollar Director of Merchandising Strategy and Analytics is responsible for working with Merchandising and Category Support to develop sound business strategies based upon shopper and category insight and analysis. This role will be critical in leading cross functional strategy sessions to develop and execute sales and margin initiatives to meet the needs of the Family Dollar customer.
This position will manage all merchandising and category management related analytics including category, competitive, and shopper insights, third party data sources such as Nielsen, NPD, 1010 and supplier insights. This role will coordinate, prioritize and manage analytics across a team of analysts as well as third party resources.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Support merchandising initiatives that are based upon shopper and competitive insight and opportunity gaps.
2. Manage a ‘best in class’ analytics and vendor management team to best support merchandising and marketing initiatives for sustainable sales and profit growth.
3. Lead merchandising/marketing to support initiatives to improve assortment, pricing and marketing decisions including:
1. Ability to translate data into actionable insights and easy to interpret, actionable reporting. Provide Shopper and Category analytic support and conduct ad hoc and standard analysis as needed.
2. Driving data integration and generation of standardized scorecards, dashboards, assessment templates, market basket data, etc.
3. Interpret and report on syndicated data (i.e. Nielsen, NPD) for market and consumer insights.
4. Lead cross functional strategy sessions.
4. Deliver competitive and customer insight that influences enterprise decisions that drive positive financial metrics:
1. Deliver quarterly actionable consolidation of insights including 3rdparty data, 1010 and primary research.
2. Optimize the acquisition and processing of data by improving the utilization of tools such as 1010, 3rdparty data, and other data sources and automation of reporting.
3. Lead the development and integration of standardized templates and reports to be used to support the buying group to meet their changing business needs.
5. Develop and maintain primary research efforts (both internal Family Dollar & Supplier or 3rd party driven), category advisors, buying teams, and marketing
6. Lead efforts to refine our supplier scorecard process as needed.
7. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Four-year college degree or equivalent experience.
Experience: 5+ years of Category Management and 3+ years of managing analytics effort
Job Related Skills: Prior experience and effectiveness in processing comprehensive consumer and category analytics. Ability to collaborate across functions and business divisions. Proven skills in business issue resolution and ability to contribute to a team environment. Ability to multi-task and set priorities across a broad range of projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability and pre-disposition to learn advanced query tools for category and customer level data-mining and analysis.
Computer Skills: High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and data query tools
• Very strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proven ability to develop partnerships and collaborate across functions and across business divisions
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience in performing database analysis to address business needs
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines
• Ability to work across vast amounts of data from different data sources
