Job Description
General Summary:The Director of Pricing and Analytics will be responsible for developing and managing Family Dollar’s pricing strategies across all retail stores and provide actionable insights based on credible business intelligence. This person will be accountable for achieving the required financial returns and improving Family Dollar’s price image. He or she will work with the buyers to define pricing strategies and category-specific pricing rules that cover the entire pricing lifecycle including regular, promotional, and markdown/clearance pricing. He or she will accountable for the creation and dissemination of accurate forecasts that seed into our Financial Plans, Distribution Center Volume Planning for Labor Modeling purposes and Assortment Planning. He or she will work in driving item profitability by ensuring that we are achieving Everyday Low Cost utilizing CPI techniques and reverse auctions when necessary. Additionally, they will overlook the creation of demand based store clusters to help drive customer-centric merchandising philosophy.
He or She will lead the Pricing and Analytics team of eighteen (18) and will have four (4) Managers reporting to them – two pricing managers, one analytics manager and one project manager.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Lead development and execution of Pricing Strategy for an $11Billion Dollar Fortune 500 Retailer.
2. Build Customer Loyalty
◦ Execute value comparison results/insights and complete ongoing value reviews within the assortment planning process
◦ Execute and deliver demand based clustered assortments when appropriate to enhance the shopping experience
◦ Develop competitive pricing strategies in collaboration with Merchandising, Marketing, and Store Operations
# Work with syndicated data providers and the vendor community to regularly monitor the competitive landscape
# Manage our price check process to ensure that our competitive data is actionable
# Utilize comp checks and market intelligence to make quick and educated pricing decisions to drive customer engagement
3. Deliver Profitable Sales
◦ Lead the efforts towards identification of Supplier Funding that will need to be applied towards COGS to support our EDLP/EDLC initiative
◦ Utilize the Category Profitability Initiative to perform Category Deep Dives to uncover additional margin opportunities as well as opportunities for Cost Reduction.
◦ Utilize Reverse Auctions as necessary to drive lower costs to support EDLC.
◦ Managing reduced markdown plans through utilizing Revionics Markdown Optimization Tool.
◦ Evaluate and refine Family Dollar’s price zone structure to improve profitability, enhance our price image, and drive better in-store execution
# Review and adjust existing price zones in response to competitor store openings and closings
4. Drive Continuous Improvement
◦ Work closely with the IT department to drive systemic improvements in our pricing and analytical capabilities
5. Develop and lead the Pricing and Analytics Team
◦ Participate in the selection of (and facilitate training) for new team members
6. Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
• Office work environment, 40+ work hours per week
• Broad knowledge of pricing, forecasting, segmentation, cross-functional applications and systems interfaces
• High energy individual that is comfortable with ambiguity and embraces change
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams and influence all levels of the organization
• Ability to multi-task, work as a team player and build cross-functional relationships.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and experience presenting in large groups
• General manager mindset with very strong analytical skills and practical experience with merchandising analytics
• Ability to give attention to detail, clearly establish priorities and operate with a high sense of urgency
• Statistical/multivariate/modeling experience as well as syndicated volumetric, internal pricing/sales and advertising/marketing data experience is a plus
• Prior experience with Category Profitability Initiative is a plus
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Advanced degree in Business or Engineering, Mathematics or Economics background a strong plus. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: 8-10 years of merchandising, supply chain and/or marketing experience and 1-3 years price management experience; consulting experience with a top tier consulting company a plus
Job Related Skills: NA
Computer Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint); Micro Strategy, Base SAS, SQL, SAS Forecast Studio. Practical experience with retail price optimization tools a plus.
