OPERA America, the national nonprofit service organization for opera, headquartered at the National Opera Center in midtown New York City, seeks a detail-oriented and eager administrator to support and solicit a portfolio of nearly $1 million in organizational membership, advertising sales and conference sponsorship.
The Organizational Membership Coordinator, with support from and reporting to the Senior Manager, Organizational Membership Services, will forge relationships with opera stakeholders nationwide by providing front-line customer service to staff at OPERA America’s organizational member companies and associates.
The Coordinator is responsible for soliciting, logging and acknowledging all memberships from organizations, and provide support in securing and fulfilling advertising and sponsorship contracts. This includes accurately entering transaction information into the central database, monitoring contact information, updating membership expirations, filing documentation and producing batch reports for accounting reconciliation.
The Coordinator will also provide logistical support to the Senior Manager around special programming for OPERA America’s 50th anniversary, including an opera hall of fame, a series of regional events nationwide, keystone events in Washington, D.C., Seattle and New York City, and other initiatives that highlight historical accomplishments and future visions for the art form and industry.
The successful candidate will:
• Be a resourceful self-starter and problem-solver at the beginning of a professional sales or fundraising career.
• Demonstrate strong oral communication skills, particularly over the phone, and clear and responsive written communication by email.
• Be organized and methodical, with a strong work ethic.
• Be collaborative in working with colleagues across the organization.
• Be proficient in Microsoft Excel (especially mail merge) and quick to learn new computer systems (such as DonorPerfect database software).
• Bring a knowledge of or interest in the operatic art form and industry.
• Have 1-2 years of customer service or related experience preferred.
• Some basic knowledge of accounting preferred
