This role focuses on our Community Engagement platform. You’ll help provide K-12 schools with reliably hosted and low-maintenance content management systems. This product allows parents access to a dashboard full of personalized student data and engages community members with news and upcoming events on a modern, mobile-friendly website. You’ll continually enhance and support the ability for each school to maintain its own online presence.
As Product Manager, you will be responsible for managing and enhancing current capabilities and initiatives, focusing on the notification solutions within our Community Engagement portfolio. You will develop a deep understanding of the market problems for this market. You will maintain relationships across a variety of channels externally and across Blackboard to gain and synthesize market insight to build detailed business requirements in the form of themes and epics. You’ll be the primary owner to build and maintain a solutions roadmap for your product. You will work closely with the Product Owner to ensure business and market needs are successfully designed and developed.
Specific responsibilities will include:
• Eliciting market problems through research, productive relationships with customers across Blackboard’s client base, and internal sources of market knowledge and expertise; prioritizing those problems against market and business needs and owning requirements definition in support of solving those market problems
• Managing offerings through their full lifecycle from concept to end of support
• Collaborating frequently with product design and development teams to ensure projects are clearly defined and properly phased to facilitate timely delivery of products
• Driving solution definition and go-to-market activities in support of achieving revenue goals for the products and services
• Performing competitive analyses for responsible products
• Owning and developing multi-quarter product roadmap for the solution area, working with other solutions’ Product Managers to ensure that solution and services themes and roadmaps take into consideration market needs
• Leading and working with the operational services and delivery teams across Blackboard to ensure operational readiness including developing delivery materials and training delivery resources on new services
• Hosting customer focus groups to test and refine product ideas and strategies
• Representing Blackboard in key industry events and initiatives
The Candidate:
• Has a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience including 2+ years of applicable product management experience
• Has a Pragmatic Marketing Certification
• Is a quick learner, organized, and self-motivated
• Can conceptualize features and functionality from idea stage to implementation and communicate complex information to different target audiences
• Can think strategically and find creative solutions to problems
• Has outstanding active listening skills
• Has demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and short- and long-term planning skills
• Has a strong customer focus and can identify business problems through a variety of techniques including face-to-face interviews, surveys, and customer advisory boards; can communicate how these capabilities contribute to solving institutions’ larger business challenges
• Has excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
• Can collaborate with differing personalities across the organization
• Has a strong understanding of agile development and can work closely with highly technical development resources while also providing strategic vision to senior executives
• Has solid project management and coordination skills
• Thrives in a fluid, cross-functional team environment
• Can travel 15-25%
