Position Overview
Explore motion capture and animation-based workflows for controlling industrial robot arms to enable more intuitive control of robotic systems.
The Autodesk Robotics Lab pursues a broad scope of inquiry around robotics — from advanced robotic simulation and control, to intuitive interfaces for robotic cinematography and media production. The team builds real-world prototypes to truly understand how technological developments will affect the future of manufacturing, construction, and media production.
This summer we are looking for an intern to use tools like our Vicon motion capture system and open-source Maya plug-in Mimic to explore novel and intuitive ways of programming and interacting with industrial robots.
Responsibilities
• Conceptualize new and intuitive workflows for transferring motion-captured or animated data to industrial robot arms
• Design and execute prototypes to validate and communicate your concepts
• Create a visually compelling demonstration, video, or artifact to showcase your work to the rest of the organization
• Collaborate with members of the team to create modular, reusable tools from your experiments
• Collaborate with other interns and team members on data generation for Machine Learning initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
• Strong and resourceful prototyping skills
• Experience with Python (preferred), C#, or C++
• Ability to collaborate with other disciplines
• Comfortable with ambiguity and passionate about learning

• Knowledge of Machine Learning paradigms, such as demonstration learning and style transfer
Internships @ Autodesk
Our summer internship program runs for ten to twelve weeks from June–August 2019. We start interviewing in January and continue to on a rolling basis. We accept online applications through March but prioritize early submissions. Each internship project is assigned to a university recruiter who will review your qualifications. You may be considered for other roles that you didn’t directly apply for.
Our Autodesk interns have the opportunity to work alongside peers from universities all over the country and participate in location-based intern events such as tech talks, design nights, mentoring, networking with leadership, baseball games, bowling, amusement parks and more. Benefits for interns include medical, dental, vision, sick leave, volunteer time and paid holiday. In addition, interns receive up to $500 wellness reimbursement (towards eligible purchases) per calendar year.
