As Database Administrator, your specific responsibilities will include:
• Providing support and administration of a large complex environment with 500+ Microsoft SQL Server instances on a variety of Windows versions
• Performing data modeling and administration of relational databases and performance tuning of SQL, both in terms of data model updates and scalability
• Monitoring, administering, and implementing performance tuning functions on distributed database systems in support of the operational baseline
• Developing non-database program components (for example: developing shell scripts to load or dump database information)
• Developing and projecting long-range requirements for database design and administration
• Working with the Enterprise Architect to design SQL Server database solutions that meet requirements, are highly performant, and highly available
• Providing operational support and administration of a large complex environment with 500+ Microsoft SQL Server instances using Microsoft SQL RDBMS Platforms, SQL Server 2008 R2, SQL Server 2012, SQL Server 2014, SQL Server 2016, SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Integration Services, High Availability (Clustering & Replication)
• Defining, documenting, and enforcing database policies, procedures, and standards to ensure all systems are implemented with proper integrity, security, and performance; performing reviews on the system designs frequently to ensure the site standards are being adhered to
• Developing and testing database backup and recovery plans and ensuring an adequate level of protection in case of database problems or errors
• Documenting database designs, structures, and processes; ensuring all modifications to database structures and processes are properly documented and annotated
• Providing on-call support during off-hours for Production, test, and development DBs based on criticality
The Candidate:
Required Skills:
• Can proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database issues
• Is an expert in DB performance analysis, tuning, and issues resolution, as well as maintenance automation tools or scripts
• Demonstrates expertise with configuring, implementing, and supporting large, high availability SQL Server environments including experience with replication, log shipping, and database mirroring
• Has experience developing non-database components (for example: developing shell scripts to load or dump database information)
• Has experience developing and projecting long-range requirements for database design and administration
• Creates, tunes, optimizes indexes, stored procedures, DTS/SSIS packages and SQL jobs
• Has worked with Enterprise Architects to design SQL Server database solutions that meet requirements, are highly performant, and highly available
• Can multi-task and reprioritize work in a rapidly changing environment
Professional Qualifications:
• B.S. or M.S. in computer science or related field or equivalent work experience
• 6+ years of experience working with Microsoft SQL server
• Can effectively plan/manage/prioritize complex tasks and projects
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and organized; can multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively, and have the propensity to handle urgent interruptions professionally
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong business acumen
Preferred Skills:
• MCSA in SQL Server 2012 or higher is highly preferred
• Experience with PowerShell, Python, R, C#, or any scripting language
• Good working knowledge of infrastructure such as Storage, Network, and Operating System
• Working knowledge of PeopleSoft Applications 9.0+/Tools 8.5+
• Business and System architecture experience
• Programming in Windows on any level
• Knowledge of Microsoft System Center Suite (SCCM, SCOM, SCDPM)
• Understanding and experience with SAN platforms
• Thorough understanding of virtual environments (NetApp, Azure, AWS)
