Position Overview
As a leader in software for design, Autodesk is interested in customer success around challenging design problems. In the context of civil engineering for transportation, automated extraction of real-world existing conditions is one of the most important aspects of roadway engineering. Autodesk already offers an automated solution to extract many existing conditions such as break-lines and city furniture as part of our toolset but extraction of vertical clearance (powerlines, overpass bridges, traffic lights, etc.) is one of the features currently need manual efforts.
This intern project aims to research and develop technology that provides the ability to extract vertical clearance information which is one of the key aspects in an existing condition that can help roadway engineers/designers in a variety of applications like maintenance, asset management, road rehab and much more.
Responsibilities
• Determine a suitable algorithm to parse the vertical features and identify vertical clearance elements
• Determine techniques to calculate attributes for each extracted feature
• Collect and prepare existing data for different transportation areas
• Generate extracted information in a meaningful way for downstream design usage
• Implement and test the algorithms and prepare a report that could be the base for a peer-reviewed journal publication
Minimum Qualifications
• Full-time student pursuing an MS, or Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering or another quantitative discipline degree at an accredited program in the United States with at least one academic term to complete post internship to be eligible for internship participation
• C++ programming skills
• Basic knowledge of Artificial Intelligence is a plus
• At least one year of graduate studies or equivalent work experience
• Basic knowledge of simple text data formats such as XML, JSON, CSV, is required
• Innovative thinking and motivation to research own ideas independently and communicating discussing these ideas efficiently
• Strong analytical skills
