Editor - Crafts
I. Job Summary
Major goals and objectives.
This position is the primary editor for crafts-related special issues, such as Quilt Sampler and annual bookazines. Determines content and coordinates with manager and art department to produce issues as assigned. Assigns profiles and technical writing for quilting projects, oversees freelance assignments, editorial research, product research, and routing stories through the system including signing proofs.
Also contributes to other quilting titles as assigned.

Responsible for coordinating all editorial aspects of Quilt Sampler “top shops” program, including shop selection, project selection, and direct communication with featured shops. Work with art department to schedule photography on location and in studio. Write and/or assign project and feature stories. For Quilt Sampler and other assigned issues, develop story content by working with Art staff, oversee freelance resources, and coordinate organizational details of routing stories. Sign off on final proofs. Produce titles within budget and on-time.

Stays abreast of industry trends through product previews, attending trade shows, and participation in consumer events.

Contributes to online initiatives and digital projects as assigned, including podcasts and videos.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements| All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Four-year college degree, preferably in Journalism, English, or Education, or equivalent experience.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years professional experience writing and editing magazines, books or newspaper articles, web site editing, or directly related experience.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and demonstrated knowledge of quilting/crafts is required. Good writing and communications skills are necessary, as is good organizational ability and the ability to meet strict deadlines. Competent in InDesign, Excel, and Word preferred.
% Travel Required (Approximate): 2 trade shows a year, plus other as assigned.
