Cell Press is a world leader in publishing high-quality research. Having established a strong reputation in the life sciences with our flagship Cell and its sister journals, and successfully expanded into the physical sciences with our chemistry and energy journals Chem and Joule, we are now looking to apply our experience and expertise in support of advancing and elevating the visibility of research in the fields of environmental change and sustainability.
One Earth, a journal designed to unite the natural, social and applied sciences in pursuit of the knowledge and solutions that will help us address the world’s most pressing socio-environmental challenges will launch in 2019. The journal will publish significant original research from across the full spectrum of global environmental change and sustainability science and will facilitate cross-community dialogue through the publication of opinion pieces, review articles, educational resources and discussions, surfacing different perspectives on topics of socio-environmental importance.
To address the grand challenges of our time and develop successful solutions toward a sustainable future, a complete understanding of the structures and dynamics of human societies is essential. We are therefore looking for a social scientist to join the editorial team of this exciting new journal.
Successful candidates will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief to help shape and launch the journal. Responsibilities will include assessing submitted research papers, making editorial recommendations, and overseeing the peer review process; commissioning, and shaping review- and commentary-type content; traveling to scientific conferences, and developing strong ties with the relevant research community; organizing scientific conferences; and contributing to Cell Press’s growth and innovation projects. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop social science at this world-leading publisher.
Some of the key attributes that we are looking for in the ideal candidate are:
(1) A Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline including, but not limited to; environmental economics, human behavior, political science, sustainable development, and urban geography.
(2) Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
(3) Broad scientific interest in science and publishing.
(4) Critical thinking and the willingness to learn and absorb new areas of research.
(5) The ability to successfully work independently and in diverse teams.
