Strategy Supervisor, Direct Marketing
Job Summary
The Direct Marketing Supervisor is a central facet within the Direct Marketing team. Working under the guidance of the VP, Brand Group Director, the Direct Marketing Supervisor constructs the strategic foundation for media plan development and ensures consistency across all channels. As a key agency contact, he/she maintains strong relationships with clients, partner agencies, media vendors and internal departments. The Direct Marketing Supervisor applies his/her knowledge of industry trends and Horizon’s consumer/channel insight resources to offer the clients fresh thinking. He/she supervises all team projects, ensuring they are completed accurately and on time and reflect both practical and strategic thinking. He/she is responsible for delivering excellent client service, innovative media plan development, and insightful analytics.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
40% Planning
• Keen and deep understanding of the media planning process, with ability to manage the execution of a range of client deliverables
◦ Analyze data and provide key insights and implications/optimizations (i.e. results reports, competitive assessments, target analysis)
◦ Oversee the billing and budget maintenance process
◦ Seek out and provide POVs for new media opportunities
• Proficiency in media math and terminology
• Veteran knowledge of systems and tools – with ability to identify their role in planning and account management (i.e. billing system, media management system, targeting tools, competitive tools)
30% Client Relationship Management
• Foster good relationships with clients and other Horizon departments, i.e. buying, traffic, operations
• Identify problems and recommend solutions in detail
30% Team Performance
• Manage team workflow, deliverables, and deadlines
• Keep senior management updated on the status and timing of deliverables
• Manage junior team member(s) development
◦ Lead the training of Assistant Strategists
◦ Collaborate with supervisory team members to train Strategists and Senior Strategists
• Set aggressive yet achievable performance goals for ones’ self
Supervisory Responsibilities
• Train Assistant Strategists, Strategists and Senior Strategists – providing clear, concrete expectations and learning plans
• Set clearly defined and aggressive – yet achievable, performance goals for junior team members
Knowledge and Skills Required
• Dedication to the principles of advertising, marketing and media
• Highly organized with ability to manage both and complete multiple deliverables within due dates – both one’s own and team-wide
• Ability to work as part of a team and speak to concrete examples of past collaborative and supervisory experience
• Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills (ability to effectively and comfortably communicate and interact with clients and vendors)
• Proficiency and creativity in Excel and PowerPoint
◦ Ability to recognize and discuss how functions can or should be applied relative to the media planning process
◦ Ability to discuss past work examples and personal approach toward development of such documents
• Proficiency in systems and tools related to the media planning process referenced above (i.e. media management system, billing system, competitive and targeting tools)
Certificates, licenses and registrations
• Bachelor's degree, preferably with a concentration in Media Studies, Advertising or related field
• Minimum 5 years media planning and/or account management experience, preferably Direct Marketing focused
• Minimum 1 year supervisory experience over at least 1 Strategist/Senior Strategist level team member
