The Media Relations Specialist supports strategic campaigns within U.S. Cellular’s Media Relations department delivering communications solutions that are consistent in their quality and delivery and measurable in their results. The Media Relations Specialist supports and executes national, regional, local and segment-specific external communications and media relations activities to promote and protect the U.S. Cellular brand.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Strategically support execution of consumer, business and philanthropic media relations campaigns and integrated programs with cross-functional teams.
• Support public relations agencies, trade, consumer and business journalists, and social influencers as directed, to increase awareness and consideration for the U.S. Cellular brand throughout our markets.
• Conduct outreach to consumer, business and wireless trade media outlets to promote U.S. Cellular’s brand and increase consumer consideration. Respond on behalf of U.S. Cellular to media inquiries.
• Manage and distribute news coverage to the organization and share breaking media stories.
• Create and edit news releases, talking points, key messages, Q&As, and other communication documents. Conduct media analysis, develop reports and merchandisers, and effectively communicate results and findings to the organization.
• Develop event packages, remarks, communications and correspondence for associates, senior leaders, executives and develop content, including photos, video, and infographics for internal and external audiences.
• Collaborate across departments and cross-functional teams including public affairs, brand, social media, internal communications, field marketing, device and product teams.
• Represent U.S. Cellular at civic and media events as needed; some travel required.
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree required, Media Relations or Communications is preferred.
• 3-5 years relevant experience in the areas of Media Relations and Communications and working with journalists.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, crisis management and interview skills.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and interpersonal skills required.
• Advanced experience with standard MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) required.
