Under limited supervision of a Senior Editor, the Editorial Assistant will provide administrative support to Publishing Editors in the Clinical Medicine Journals division. The Editorial Assistant will provide support for the acquisition, development and management of new and existing STM journals to a Senior Editor, Executive Editor and Editorial Director.
Responsibilities:
• Actively participate in the development of journal proposals and the creation and maintenance of departmental spreadsheets for new and existing medical journal titles
• Perform marketing and professional research related to new journal launches and acquisition of new and established medical journals
• Compile and maintain databases for journal proposals as well as create weekly/monthly editorial status reports for colleagues
• Create and complete Publisher Reports for dissemination to Editors and Editorial Board members on a monthly schedule
• Create and distribute Editor-in-Chief reports of Table of Content listings detailing the status of manuscripts on a monthly schedule
• Create and distribute Weekly Status Reports detailing manuscripts currently in Production
• Work with other Springer departments (Production, Marketing, Advertising Sales, Information Technology, Finance, etc) to provide and elicit information relative to the journal publishing program; act as a liaison with all departments and business units
• Monitor and update relevant publishing information in Springer's internal databases as well as journal portals
• Provide strong administrative support by initiating correspondence, preparing check requests, routing contracts, etc
• Conduct regular contact with Editors, medical societies and their representatives, editorial board members, authors, journal staff and other Springer staff
• Other publishing related duties as required by Manager
Job Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Science, Journalism or English
• Two years' experience in either STM publishing or journal publishing preferred
• Excellent organizational, analytical, communication and computer skills are mandatory
• Extensive knowledge and use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are mandatory; database and software capabilities are a plus
• Must be able to work independently with excellent follow-through and minimal supervision; must be able to act professionally and diplomatically when representing SpringerNature
