Design Assistant for High-End Custom Frame Company
Description
At Downing Frames, we specialize in custom-built, handmade frames using museum quality framing practices in Long Island City, Queens.
The Design Assistant is a hardworking, detail-oriented, team player. They are able to work and communicate efficiently and effectively with clarity and professionalism in a fast-paced environment. Precise skills in art handling and inventory management are paramount.
The Design Assistant will maintain the inventory of all incoming and outgoing artworks, complete condition reports, oversee shipment and basic framing quotes, and accurately enter artwork information into our database. They will also work closely with our Designer in both art handling and communication with clients.
Preferred Education and Experience
• Minimum of two-years as a registrar or other art inventory management experience
• Considerable on the job experience of art handling is a must
• High school graduation supplemented by completion of formal or practical vocational training or Associate’s degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience
• Specific coursework in art
• Knowledge of tools and materials such as adhesives, primers, rollers, cardboard, poly, foam, screws, drill bits, drivers, etc.
• Photography knowledge is a plus

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching. The employee will have to lift and/or move items over 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
This is a full-time salary position.
