Responsibilities
The Multi-Platform Content Supervisor will play a central role in strategizing digital and broadcast content as well as PIX11.com, the PIX11 mobile app and emerging platforms for day of air and future projects.
The right candidate would need excellent news judgment, a sense of what's important to PIX11 viewers specifically and the tri-state area in general, and the ability to edit, report and write news stories accurately, clearly and quickly.
The job requires a person who has an eye toward finding the most relevant stories and ensuring they are receiving the best possible play across all platforms.
The Multi-Platform Content Supervisor will also work closely with the executive producers of newscasts to facilitate cross-promotion across platforms on a consistent and effective basis.
The central goals of the job can be distilled as
• Driving content generation/ideas, working closely with digital team as well as reporters, producers and assignment editors
• Managing Digital and Desk content assets – i.e. trucks, engos, osmos, 360 cameras
• Ensuring all platforms are served well with breaking news and enterprising reporting
1. Coordinating with Special Projects EP on planning for broadcast and digital coverage -allocating resources and assigning hybrid responsibilities to reporters/crews
2. Connecting the dots between platforms and identifying unique opportunities for each.
• Having digital savvy and an established track record of success in growing digital and social platforms
• Maintaining desk/web schedule
The Multi-Platform content supervisor will monitor digital team members’ writing, perform edits, create and maintain training guides, write daily news stories, post on social, plan special events digital coverage, assign daily stories or social posts to others as needed, and monitor station reporting, sourcing and attribution. He or she will establish and lead regular and ongoing digital producer and assignment editor reviews with consistent feedback.
He or she will have a comprehensive knowledge of reporting, sourcing, transparency and journalism ethics, as well as a mastery of spelling, punctuation, grammar and AP Style. Will also be detail-oriented, organized and able to prioritize and comfortably multitask under tight deadlines. The Multi-Platform Content Supervisor must be able to follow directions, perform duties, work well with others and make independent decisions. This position requires the ability to integrate digital content with broadcast coverage and communicate effectively with the assignment desk, show producers and on-air reporters.
The Multi-Platform Content Supervisor must be comfortable with technology, as he or she will manage video live streams and create, edit and post video clips from newscasts and other raw feeds. Experience with non-linear video editing and web publishing systems is preferred. Knowledge of Photoshop is preferred. Experience with Final Cut Pro is a plus.
Must be able to jump in on either desk or digital -or both when needed.
Familiarity and comfort with Twitter, Instagram and Facebook are required, and the candidate should understand how social media is an asset to a news organization. The perfect candidate should also be willing to experiment and follow new developments in social media.
Qualifications
News management experience and previous leadership roles are preferred but not essential. Must excel at giving clear feedback, setting goals and helping others exceed expectations. Previous experience in a newsroom, especially on a digital platform or in local television news, is strongly preferred. The ability to continually update and rewrite stories with the newest information – while promptly posting updates on the station's social media accounts – is a must. Bachelor's degree and three to five years of experience in newspaper-style writing required. The candidate must have excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written. The individual must be able to work various shifts and times, including early mornings, nights and weekends.
