POSITION SUMMARY:
Position serves as the key manager for the inventory control processes and procedures in the MPS Virginia facility. As such, the position is responsible for informing, coordinating, prioritizing, and monitoring multiple publisher organizations and Virginia departments. The director supervises the activities, scheduling, and processes for all inventory related activities. Individual has a significant amount of both direct and indirect responsibility – much of this responsibility involves coordination and management crossing department and organization boundaries. As such, the position requires strong interpersonal skills, management skills, and attention to detail.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
Holds the fiduciary responsibility for inventory within the MPS organization.
Develops, implements, and executes the plans and processes for assuring inventory is managed, controlled, reported, and monitored properly within the operation, including:
• Managing and maintaining the physical and financial inventories.
• Reporting, resolving, and managing variances and discrepancies between the physical and financial inventories.
• Serving as the key contact and source of information for publishers and operations on inventory related issues
• Assuring the development of recording and filing systems to support the auditing of inventory transactions and costs.
• Assuring that inventory transactions and costs are reported, approved, and controlled consistent with company policy.
Establishes and maintains the cycle count process in conformance with audit, company, and industry standards, including management of the employees, record keeping, auditing, and validation of inventory transactions and adjustments
Provides leadership and support role in the implementation of the inventory costing function for the company.
Establishes and maintains a physical inventory process for all product not under a cycle count program.
Defines, establishes, operates, monitors, and manages the functions and transactions which affect inventory, including:
• Inventory adjustments and movements within both the WMS and Vista system.
• Alternate price transactions and movements.
• Control of the physical locations status (e.g., freezing of locations).
• Control of bindery inventory locations and movement.
Establishes the processes and procedures to report, investigate, resolve, and correct inventory discrepancies between the physical and financial inventories, including:
• Daily and weekly monitoring of the discrepancy report
• Routine and controlled investigation and resolution with definition of cause.
• Analysis and procedure definition and change to minimize root causes of discrepancies.
• Ownership of processes and procedures for inventory and related transactions, whether performed directly by the department or by other departments/organizations within the company.
• Establishment, documentation, training/education, and enforcement of inventory transaction procedures.
Establishes and manages the process to review stock levels and locations, including:
• Daily review of stock levels to assure that stock is located in the appropriate location.
• Management of available stock in all locations to assure product is released and shipped in a timely fashion.
• Management of the inter-site transfer process to assure stock is requested, transferred, and located in a timely and efficient fashion – including as much forward looking knowledge as possible (e.g., sales and returns velocities).
Requirements
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Manages inventory support specialists, cycle count groups, and inventory analyst. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include; interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor of Science or equivalent 4 year college degree; or 5 to 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
