Overview
WDAF FOX4 News seeks a high energy news reporter hungry to find original content and own the big story. Ideal candidate thrives on reporting breaking news, aggressively pursues hard news stories, and turns a wide range of enterprise stories because of their meaningful contacts. Consumer or Investigative experience a plus.
We want a team player who can become a leading personality while ad-libbing with ease, going LIVE, and finding interesting ways to present stories to engage viewers.
This is an outstanding news operation and we want leaders and doers who can think for themselves while executing our “Working for You” brand – focusing on providing more context and digging deeper to find that viewer benefit. Reporter should be well versed in social media practices on multiple platforms and able to engage viewers on a daily basis.
Responsibilities
Reporter will execute assignments following the direction of the News Managers and Producers
Timely and effectively report on newscasts, develop contacts, find and enterprise stories to WDAF standards, report those stories in a fair and balanced fashion that avoids litigation.
Reporter must be a strong communicator who keeps us briefed on story developments, live location and makes slot
Reporter must know social media platforms and understand what type of content to post. Candidate will be expected to make public appearances and promote WDAF when asked
Work closely with other members of the station team in planning, preparation, writing scripts, editing copy and creating show rundowns.

Qualifications
2+ years of reporting experience and a Bachelor’s Degree
Strong writing and spelling skills, solid news judgment, accuracy and knowledge of current events in Kansas City a plus
Highly professional with a strong work ethic, ability to perform in a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions, flexibility for when news breaks. Manage tasks and resources necessary to complete daily duties without assistance or direct supervision. Communicate and relate well with other members of the station team including Producers, Photographers, Executive Producers, digital department, and with a television viewing audience.
Must be effective on the street with an engaging on camera presentation, strong writing, storytelling and News judgment.
Sufficient technical knowledge to be able to work with multiple computer programs
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Must be willing to submit to a background check and have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.
