JOB DESCRIPTION
The Manager of Trip Talent is responsible for sourcing grantees and other potential guest speakers for National Geographic Expeditions trips; identifying unique National Geographic trip tie-ins such as research site visits; sourcing, selecting and managing experts to join a portfolio of trips; and providing logistical support to the Expert team, such as maintaining the Expert assignments database, keeping expert information on the National Geographic Expeditions website current, and managing the expert background check process.
Responsibilities:
• Guest Speaker Sourcing: Review domestic and international National Geographic Society explorers and grantees, National Geographic Partners contributors, and National Geographic Partners media subjects for potential guest speakers on National Geographic Expeditions trips;
• Document and share findings with talent directors, program management, and trip development staff; highlight speakers who may have potential to serve as full-trip experts; track guest speaker deployment and performance on trips
• Expert Team Logistics: Keep expert listings current on the National Geographic Expeditions website and on spreadsheets used to track expert assignments, geographies, and skills.
• Acquire and organize media (including field photos, interviews, video, and so on) from experts who are willing for use by National Geographic Expeditions’ marketing team and National Geographic editorial teams.
• Maintain NG Expeditions entries in the NGP talent database. Initiate, manage, and document the status of expert background checks.
• Generate timely post-trip guest evaluation reports on experts to assist with expert performance management.
• Create weekly, quarterly and annual reports on expert performance.
• Review National Geographic Expeditions and partner marketing materials to ensure accuracy of expert information.
• Assist with the production of expert quarterly newsletters.
• Update and help develop resources for National Geographic Expeditions’ Expert Portal.
• In coordination with the trip talent directors, manage expert assignments for a portfolio of trips, such as International-Market trips.
• Share expectations, coach for success, and share post-trip feedback from travelers with experts.
• Communicate and coordinate schedules with stakeholders.
• Also, assist both trip-talent directors with finding and confirming short-notice replacement experts as needed
• Identify Trip Tie-Ins: Identify, propose and track potential trip tie-ins such as site visits, photo opportunities, and activities based on National Geographic grants and media coverage for new and existing itineraries
• Assist with Expert Training: Assist in the development and delivery of National Geographic Brand Ambassador training and presentation materials for experts and guest speakers, including up-to-date information on National Geographic Society’s and National Geographic Partners’ activities and priorities, visual storytelling and presentation skills, best practices, expert and guest speaker responsibilities, and trip-specific expectations.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s required, master’s or other advanced degree preferred. Four years full-time professional work experience required. Intimate familiarity with National Geographic Society and National Geographic Partners highly preferred. Experience with educational travel a plus. Media experience helpful
• Strong written and verbal communications skills essential; fluency in one or more other languages a plus
• Ability to work with spreadsheets and quantitative performance data
• Microsoft Office suite, digital publishing, basic media production skills. Photoshop experience a plus
• Responsive self-starter with strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Sociable and excellent at interacting with people.
• Organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
