Overview
The HR Director is responsible for providing overall strategic and operational HR leadership for WPIX-TV (PIX11), Tribune Broadcasting New York flagship station. The Director will also drive key HR initiatives in areas such as staffing, performance management, compensation planning, organizational development, employee resolution, succession planning and policy design/interpretation. Reporting to the VP, Human Resources, the HR Director will oversee an employee population of approximately 400 union/non-union employees.
This is a challenging and exciting opportunity to drive the HR agenda for WPIX, a leader in the broadcast marketplace. We’re looking for a dynamic human resource professional skilled at leading an organization through change and providing thorough support in a fast-paced environment. As the HR leader for a station in the number one market, the Director will function at the highest level of responsibility and will use their HR expertise to develop an HR agenda that supports the business strategy for Tribune Broadcasting.
Responsibilities
• Drive strategic HR-related planning, organization design & integration, staffing, compensation planning, manager coaching, employee development, compliance and performance management for represented and non-represented workforce.
• Interpret and implement HR policies, practices and procedures for managers, teams and individual employees that further the mission, values and strategic vision of the business.
• Manage staffing process working with clients and HR team to identify recruitment strategies as well as ensure quality candidate selection.
• Act as the primary contact for on-site union relations and full-cycle processes.
• Partner with Labor and Employment Counsels on resolving all employee relations and labor relations’ issues and provide coaching to department leaders on associated HR and labor issues.
• Work with leaders and employees to establish and maintain a positive work environment, which encourages the full use of diverse talents and abilities; act as an employee advocate.
• Inspire, motivate and lead professional growth and development of employees’ current and future roles within the organization.
• Manage local compliance requirements including EEOC, FCC etc..
• Responsible for headcount and budget management.
• Manage HR work streams of strategic business projects.
• Help identify training needs and build into training plan for the business.
• Work with General Counsel, Director of Legal Affairs to support Integrity issues throughout the business (including training & policy implementation).
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, industrial relations, business administration or equivalent experience required; graduate degree in HR management or business administration preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive HR experience.
• Ability to create relationships with client management team to create a collaborative environment.
• Ability to communicate and champion HR & company processes.
• Must have experience in a union environment and understanding the complexities of workforces within a client group.
• Ability to research, summarize, form conclusions and articulate recommendations.
• Excellent organization, facilitation and creative problem solving skills are also required.
• Excellent leadership, coaching, critical thinking, problem solving, project management and organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including formal presentation skills.
• Ability to execute both strategic and tactical priorities.
• Demonstrated knowledge of applicable State and Federal employment laws and general business practices.
• Must be willing to submit to a background investigation.
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
• Must be available to evenings and weekends and travel as necessary.
• Previous experience in television or entertainment industry a plus.
