Chief Editor - Lab Animal; Nature Research
Nature Research is a flagship portfolio of journals, products and services including Nature and the Nature-branded journals, dedicated to serving the scientific community.
Chief Editor―Lab Animal; Nature Research
Springer Nature is looking to recruit a Chief Editor for Lab Animal, a Nature Research journal.
Lab Animal is part of the Nature Research portfolio of journals and is hosted on nature.com https://www.nature.com/laban/. The journal is dedicated to in vivo science and technology that improves our basic understanding and use of model organisms of human health and disease. In addition to basic research, methods and technologies, Lab Animal also covers important news, business and regulatory matters that impact the development and application of model organisms for preclinical research. The journal’s goal is to expand its portfolio of commissioned content such as Reviews, Perspectives and Commentary, and to further develop the quality and impact of its primary research content.
To help realize this exciting vision, we require an ambitious, dynamic Chief Editor, who will develop and further establish Lab Animal as a leading publication covering all aspects of animal model-based research. Lab Animal is managed and works alongside a group of Nature Journals dedicated to methodology and applied biomedical sciences, including Nature Methods, Nature Biotechnology and Nature Biomedical Engineering.
Applicants must have a PhD, with a strong track record in research relevant to the fields covered in the journal and listed above. Previous editorial and/or managerial experience is an additional advantage.
The successful applicant will lead an editorial team, and work closely with them on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection, commissioning and editing of manuscripts and writing for the journal. The job will also involve liaising with the scientific community through laboratory visits and international conferences.
The position will be based in one of our main editorial offices in New York where the editorial team is based.
Applicants should send a CV; a statement (1,500 words) that encapsulates their vision for the journal’s content, competitive position and longer-term development; and a brief cover letter explaining their interest in the post and their salary expectations. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.
