Requirements
Reporting to the Corporate Controller this is a key position responsible for general accounting functions and the Controller’s primary support. This position will be responsible for monthly closing activities, consolidations, yearend audit process, internal controls and compliance with international financial reporting standards (IFRS). This position will utilize available technologies to standardize procedures, drive process improvement and increase efficiency.
Major Responsibilities:
• Perform monthly accounting close activities, account reconciliations, and analysis.
• Work with accounting departments in other regions to ensure accounting consistency and comparability. This includes coordinating with the parent company Controller’s group to develop global accounting practices that conform to IFRS.
• Assist with yearend financial statement and 401K/pension plan audits. Includes financial statements preparation, account analysis, reconciliations, and timely responses to auditor questions and requests.
• Design, document, and implement accounting procedures leveraging Macmillan’s new SAP ERP system.
• Ensure effective internal control practices exist within the accounting functions.
• Assist with due diligence on potential acquisition targets as well as with the purchase accounting and integration of newly acquired companies.
• Perform ad hoc projects including participation in future implementation of SAP modules.
Required Skills / Knowledge:
• Understanding of IFRS and finance concepts
• Project management
• Expert in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Basic understanding of the publishing industry
Experience Needed:
• 5-7 years of relevant work experience in Finance & Accounting roles
• Experience in global organizations
• Proficiency with SAP, EPM, and Analysis for Office (AO) is a plus
• Participation in one or more relevant ERP project implementations is a plus
• Media experience preferred
Educational Background Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
• MBA or other relevant degree is a plus
• CPA certification
