Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for completing and delegating work necessary for adherence to company policy and procedure and for the overall safe operation of the vessel. Ensures continued compliance with USCG / ABS Consulting regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Adheres to and enforces compliance will all standards/regulations established by State Gaming Division, OSHA, USCG, or ABS Consulting and other federal, state, and local agencies.
• Assists with preparation for, and completion of, annual safety and compliance inspections.
• Administers all emergency plans and station bills affecting the riverboat, which includes periodically reviewing them for effectiveness and conformance with standards and best practices.
• Man or ensure the manning of all required watch stations including the pilothouse.
• Assists senior officers with riverboat maintenance and operation duties.
• Administers record keeping and training programs required by the company, state, USCG officials and ABS regulations.
• Makes inspection rounds of the vessel, and by direct observation catalogues deficiencies. Corrects or delegates the correction of such deficiencies.
• Assists senior officers in the training and drilling of crew, and in the delegation of daily duty assignments.
• Assists senior officers with monitoring of crew activities, and performance. Acts as the first level of deck crew supervision.
• Demonstrate ability to understand, communicate and comply with Company Policies, Processes, and Procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
• Ability to use all equipment, systems, and tools typically associated with the position.
• Has a general knowledge of chemicals, cleaners, strippers, and waxes.
• Ability to understand and employ Material Safety Data Sheet instructions and warnings.
• Guest service and public relations skills are essential.
• Strong oral and written communications skills are needed.
• Must be able to work a flexible and varying schedule, which may include 12+ hour shifts, and/or lengthy duty assignments.
• Ability to respond calmly and make rational decisions in an emergency.
• Ability to manage and resolve complex issues. Can be a high stress environment.
• Ability to perform assigned duties under frequent time pressures.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 2+ years’ experience as a Boatswain, or other commensurate level of responsibility on a vessel. (specific tonnage requirements may apply)
• Specific marine licensure requirements may apply by state or jurisdiction.
• Must have or be able to obtain a valid state Gaming License.
• The ability to obtain and maintain any licenses, permits, insurance, or indemnifications necessary for the completion of duties and responsibilities associated with this position, or for the protection of the Company’s assets, Team Members, or patrons.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Able to stand and sit for prolonged periods.
• Able to work at heights of 40 feet or more and/or in confined spaces.
• Able to listen and respond to visual and aural cues.
• Requires periodic outdoor exposure in all weather conditions.
• Frequent pushing, pulling, bending, and walking.
• Lifting up to 30-lbs. as needed, without assistance.
• Casino environment exposed to various temperatures, smoke, dust and fumes, bright lights, and excessive noise levels.
