Description
Pace Gallery is seeking an outgoing and experienced Curatorial Assistant to support the Pace Gallery’s ambitious global exhibition program. Reporting to the Senior Director and Curator, s/he will be responsible for assisting with a variety of curatorial and administrative tasks including artist and exhibition research; coordinating programs and events; managing contacts and correspondence; assisting with the coordination of catalogs; writing and editing exhibition-related texts; and general administrative support for the Senior Director and Curator. The Curatorial Assistant will maintain current knowledge of the field, including the activities of art galleries, institutions, and related organizations, emerging and established artists, and trending topics in critical cultural discourse.
Responsibilities:
Curatorial
• Conduct rigorous research on contemporary artists, including the history and context of their artwork.
• Conduct research to support the development of exhibitions, publications and special programs.
• Serve as a liaison to artists’ studios and representatives with regard planning and execution of exhibitions and publications.
• Support the production, coordination, and consistency of exhibition descriptions and didactic materials including sales packets, biographies, press statements, labels, and website content.
• Participate in, and assist with, staff training on exhibitions.
• Assist with exhibitions-related programs including artist talks and interviews, curatorial lectures, off-site events, and exhibition tours.
• Work with Marketing & Communications staff to develop materials, in print and online, to promote, publicize, and interpret exhibitions and related public programs.
• Manage curatorial intern.
Administrative
• Handle external communications with artists, studios, museums and private collectors.
• Serve as a liaison between Senior Director and other departments at Pace.
• Maintain and organize Senior Director’s daily schedule and calendar.
• Provide general support including preparation of correspondence, managing incoming mail answering phones, filing, etc.
• Schedule appointments; handle reservations for lunch, dinners, etc.
• Coordinate travel arrangements and accommodations including booking flights, hotels and local transportation; arranging full appointment schedule; creating detailed itineraries including list of all activities, pick up points, travel information, etc.; making necessary arrangements for dinners/lunches, events, auctions, fairs, etc.
• Administrative duties including filing, copying, and general office management responsibilities (e.g., ordering supplies, organization of office, etc.).
• Assist with any unanticipated projects or requests, and additional responsibilities as assigned.
About You:
• MFA or MA Art History, Curatorial Studies, or related field preferred.
• Must have knowledge of international contemporary art and artists and critical cultural discourse; strong knowledge of the gallery world and international art institutions.
• Experience providing executive administrative support
• Highly developed writing and copy-editing skills.
• Strong public speaking skills; ability to lead tours.
• Extremely well presented, professional and articulate.
• Positive and enthusiastic interpersonal skills that enable collaborative interaction with all levels of management, staff and the public, effectively gaining the confidence of artists, clients, external partners, and internal staff.
• Creativity in thought and action, showing initiative and independence.
• Integrity, good judgment, and the highest ethical standards.
• Strong multi-tasking and organizational abilities, as well as superior time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
• A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Computer competency with Microsoft Office as well as with software specific to the position.
