Role:
Airbnb’s Public Policy + Communications team aims to work closely with politicians, regulators, and the broader public to introduce them to Airbnb, highlight the significant social and economic contribution our business makes to local areas and its inhabitants, and showcase best practices from around the world. We want policymakers to understand the regulatory challenges that affect our host community and find models that are good for cities and our thriving local communities.
Across the Americas, we are engaged in well over a hundred local conversations and negotiations with governments big and small, and our skilled colleagues and network of activists across the region engage not only governments at local, regional and national levels directly but also use innovative advocacy strategies that actively involve our community in making the case for fair, progressive home sharing rules, and innovative approaches to local experiences.
The Campaign Manager is responsible for developing and executing integrated policy campaign plans and leading our local team. Our campaigns draw on a wide range of tools and campaign disciplines - from direct lobbying, detailed policy work, through high-impact partnerships, proactive media relations, community organizing, digital platforms and content, polling, and innovative data science and research.
The Campaign Manager must be meticulously organized and detail oriented, but can also see the big picture and prioritize projects strategically when needed. The Campaign Manager has a strong work ethic and excellent communication skills, and an ability to take big ideas and translate them into policy with a positive and creative outlook. The Campaign Manager also has strong relationships with key internal stakeholders. The Campaign Manager is solutions oriented and understands how to synthesize necessary of information that should be escalated to leadership.
This role will be based in Washington D.C. and will report to the Regional Campaign Manager.
Responsibilities:
• Leads the process of setting strategy for each market - determining the ultimate policy goals and developing operational plans that deliver progress towards those goals.
• Work in close collaboration with the functional leadership of the policy team in the Americas - covering policy development, digital content, strategic partnerships, community organizing and public affairs communications.
• Manages the local team and provides direction and motivation to a multi-disciplinary team.
• Commission and empower other functions in the Americas campaign organization to devise and execute tactics that will contribute to the agreed strategic goals.
• Recruit and manage consultants and agencies to support campaign plans.
• Ensures that existing campaign resources (money, people, time) are spent in the best possible of ways, in harmony with the overall campaign plan of the market.
• Identifying local issues that may have pan-regional implications, and working with colleagues in San Francisco to develop global solutions and approaches as required.
• Ensures progress is reported regularly, and roadblocks flagged in a timely fashion.
• Works closely with their local business partners to make sure that campaign plans fit with other local business priorities and outcomes.
• Ensures all work is cross-functional and that crucial internal stakeholders understand the campaign strategy and plans, and that information is flowing smoothly to relevant individuals.
Requirements:
• At least 8+ years experience direct lobbying or working with policy campaigns in a relevant business or non-governmental organisation, or in a political, governmental or regulatory context (work in multiple markets and a mix of public/private sector experience is an advantage).
• Well-developed leadership skills, substantial experience in managing other people and supporting and developing growing teams.
• Experience of policy or campaigning in the fields of tourism, housing, landlord/tenant relationships, e-commerce and internet would also be advantageous.
• Experience of budget/resource management and allocation;
• Ability to quickly get up to speed on complex technical and regulatory issues
• Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously and navigate complex matrix organization with multiple stakeholders
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; ability to resolve complex and unfamiliar problems in a timely manner
• Extremely creative; takes an entrepreneurial approach to the work with proven track record of being proactive
• Highly results-driven and strives to find the most efficient way to do things without sacrificing a high quality of work and/or results
• Excellent communicator with great presentation and writing skills
• Acute attention to detail; extremely organized and able to help keep others organized
