Job Summary
Under general supervision the Suddenlink Construction Coordinator II plans and supports proposed sites for system construction or upgrade. Interfaces with the regional engineering office, operations managers and contract personnel to enable the timely delivery of new services to potential customers.
Responsibilities
• Provides quality internal and external customer service surrounding Suddenlink’s values
• Serves as a liaison between developers, utilities and government agencies
• Assists with placement and splicing of fiber in aerial of underground systems
• Assists Broadband Technicians with maintenance and service of the HFC plant to ensure system performance is meeting FCC standards
• Balances and splices HFC plant to ensure system performance is meeting FCC standards
• Verifies completion of construction work on CATV system design prints
• Performs in responsibilities of Construction Coordinator I as necessary
◦ Assists in the creation of strand maps and as-built maps to arrange for system design and permitting
◦ Prepares and submits scope for utility markings
◦ Ensures applications, permits and easements are obtained, accurately completed and submitted to the appropriate entities
◦ Provides appropriate documentation to project engineers and construction management upon request
◦ Maintains inventory and reconciles unused materials from contractors at project completion
◦ Partners in the verification of proposed designs to create bills of material
◦ Participates in budget preparation
◦ Orders and tracks materials for projects in coordination with engineering personnel
◦ Issues work and supervise contract personnel to resolve site complaints
◦ Coordinates turn on and sweep with plant managers
◦ Provides homes passed data to marketing department
◦ Verifies the qualification and acceptance of plant for invoices
◦ Provides assistance with regional projects as directed
◦ Resolves or escalates customer complaints
◦ Plans daily activity, requisitions equipment and supplies and stocks vehicle
◦ Completes job documentation on paper or by using a computer
• Uses small hand tools, power tools, meters and other test equipment
• Operates a bucket truck
• Maintains and secures Company truck and equipment
• Works on regularly scheduled days as well as unscheduled days and beyond regular work hours as required
• Performs other duties as assigned
Essential Functions
• Ability to communicate in person and by telephone
• Ability to carry and to use tools and equipment as necessary
• Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires
• Ability to carry, climb and operate extension ladder, (approximately 28 feet high, and 75 pounds)
• Ability to lift 75 pounds
• Ability to climb poles using gaffs, hooks, and climbing belt as needed
• Ability to work in confined spaces such as crawlspaces and attics by crawling, bending, reaching, twisting
• Ability to work while standing 70-90% of the time
• Ability to drive Suddenlink vehicle in a safe and responsible manner
Qualifications / Requirements
• Construction Coordinator I, Construction Technician III, Broadband Technician IV or equivalent experience required
• Experience in developing a hybrid fiber coax system extension required
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Related NCTI and/or SCTE courses preferred
• Advanced skills in using a Windows based computer
• Knowledge of advanced mathematics and electronics
• Advanced understanding of CATV system design prints
• Ability to comprehend and operate appropriate testing equipment (e.g., SLM, signal leakage detector, TDR) to fulfill job requirements
• Knowledge and ability to troubleshoot coaxial plant to repair system problems
• Knowledge of cable plant installation, splicing, trenching and back-filling construction projects
• Advanced knowledge of aerial and underground HFC networks
• Basic knowledge regarding usage of construction equipment including jackhammers, compressor power equipment, extension ladders, aerial lifts
• Understanding of unity gain network
• Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
• Ability to work independently and with others
• Appropriate valid driver’s license and driving record within Suddenlink standards
Preferred Experience
• Field construction experience with cable, telecommunications or line equipment preferred
• Bi-lingual proficiency preferred in some locations
Working Conditions
• Work indoors in poorly ventilated areas such as attics during extreme heat
• Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, insects, cleaning solutions
• Work performed near power lines and electricity
• Work, including travel, outdoors in adverse weather conditions day or night
