Job Description
As an Events Manager (EM) you are responsible for administrative and marketing support and logistics of our in-store events at one of our high volume author promotion stores. You work with the management team to ensure seamless execution of events which includes optimal merchandising prior to and during events, and adequate staffing to help generate sales and ensure a positive customer/author experience. You represent Barnes & Noble and serve as a valuable resource to help your store manager (SM).
Essential Functions
• Organize, promote, execute and drive attendance to in-store events including, but not limited to, author promotions and local and national events
• Oversee event logistics including, but not limited to, ordering signs and flyers, updating BN.com store locator information, managing media outreach/relations/requests and local store social media posts
• Facilitate author events, including introductions, Q&A sessions and closing remarks
• Provide a high level of author and publisher care/support to ensure a positive relationship and outcome with all events
• Share sales-driving objectives for events with store team, ensuring all special offers are effectively communicated to customers during events
• Partner with home office executives, Author Promotions team, District Manager, local law enforcement/authorities, and Barnes & Noble Regional Loss Prevention Director on high profile events when necessary
• Monitor stock level on all event-related books and products to ensure optimal merchandising and sales opportunities prior to and during events
• Maintain a contact database of key local media, publishers, publicists, agents and online event marketing sites (Bloggers, local magazines, etc.)
• Maintain a calm demeanor and manage customer service issues professionally and according to store operating and company standards, setting a positive example for booksellers
• Make recommendations to Store Manager on ways to improve events
• Assist in other areas of the store as assigned by the Store Manager
Qualifications
• Strong organization and written/verbal communication skills including public speaking
• Spend time on the selling floor and receiving area, which requires physical activity (i.e., prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, climbing)
• Availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays to align with store needs and communication needs of publishers, publicists and agents
• Two years of experience in one or more of the following fields preferred: retail sales, education, event planning, marketing, or public relations
