Job Summary:
ESPN Assistant Editor Social producers oversee the daily creation and curation of content for various ESPN-branded social media accounts across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The foundation of this hybrid editor/producer role is about developing unique and compelling content that will thrive in social/mobile environments. Candidates must have or develop an awareness of the operations of multiple ESPN units, as well as an assortment of content types (text, video, audio, photo) in order to collaborate successfully in identifying and/or developing up-to-the-minute content.
This position is Part Time; 29 hours/week.
Responsibilities:
• Performs a wide variety of tasks to assist in shaping, creating, and distributing content on social media platforms
• Writes and edits social media posts ranging from article shares to original photo and video assets
• Generates ideas for stories, videos and graphics
• Supports project leads to make ESPN content compelling and comprehensive on social media platforms
• Works in a variety of platform-specific content management and social analytics systems
Basic Qualifications:
• Has fundamental writing and editorial skills
• 1-plus years of experience in media, journalism, or a related field
• Strong familiarity with major social media platforms and fluency in electronic newsgathering techniques, including quickly navigating the Internet
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with video editing systems and techniques
• Familiarity with photo editing systems and techniques
Required Education
• An undergraduate degree in journalism, communications, online/multimedia or related field OR a high school diploma and a suitable combination of related training and experience.
