Seeker Media is looking for an experiencedProducer to help supervise editorial planning and the execution of news-oriented social video content. Reporting directly to the Editor in Chief, this position is instrumental in ensuring proper coordination of our news programming. In addition to brainstorming ideas for coverage and helping to oversee coverage, the Producer will assist with maintaining the programming calendar and help ensure that our content reflects the evolving guidance of best practices from our Audience Development team.
We’re looking for a highly organized and talented producer who has a passion for science/tech journalism, is adept at conceiving angles for insightful and informative coverage, and who has managed video production workflow for social networks like Facebook. The ideal candidate has a wide range of interests, a sharp eye for narrative flow and accuracy, and feels right at home working in a fast-paced production environment. Previous editorial and fact-checking experience is a big plus.
Primary responsibilities include identifying news stories and trending topics that play to our focus on science and innovation; monitoring social video production; assigning, editing, and writing short-form scripts daily; reviewing rough video edits; overseeing field productions for our news feed; assisting with the coordination related coverage across different formats; and assisting with the management of a programming calendar.
Responsibilities:
• Manage a production pod of Associate Producers and Editors
• Help to oversee timely, quick-turn social video production, planning and prioritizing output while ensuring that producers/editors have an evenly distributed workload
• Review and edit scripts and supervise video edits to completion, ensuring accuracy and maintaining quality control
• Come up with amazing story ideas and proactively share them during daily pitch meetings while fostering the ideas of colleagues
• Produce short-form videos from pitch to edit by researching, scripting, and securing visual assets
• Initiate local field productions for newsfeed content
• Lead the pitching and production of special projects
• Brainstorm, develop, and pilot new formats to ensure that we're innovating creatively
• Coordinate the cross-pollination of ideas and coverage between video and written editorial articles
• Work with Audience Development to refine best practices according to data and analytics
• Leverage data-driven insights to grow audience, engagement, and viewer retention across multiple media platforms
• Help build the platform into a leading outlet for science/tech-related news
• Research and stay ahead of future trending/relevant science news events
Qualifications:
• A minimum of 3 years of experience developing digital video content for YouTube, Facebook, and other social platforms
• 1+ years of experience managing direct reports
• Previous editorial/journalistic experience preferred
• A creative storyteller with strong writing ability across a variety of media
• Ability to evaluate and provide constructive feedback on scripts, edits, and the crafting of narratives
• Clear, consistent communication with an enthusiastic and personable approach to work
• Strong leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members and encourage collaboration and work with team members to achieve their career goals
• Extremely detail-oriented and organized
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and confidently utilize interpersonal skills while thriving under the pressure of daily deadlines
• Demonstrated experience in tying data insights to editorial output
• Bachelor’s degree preferred (media or science/engineering focus a plus)
