Requirements
Macmillan Learning is seeking an Associate Media Editor for our Social Sciences list covering Economics and Psychology. The Associate Media Editor will plan, develop, and manage preparation of ancillary elements and Web content that deliver competitive advantage. Media editors work closely with the program managers, development editors, and authors to solidify revision stories and first edition plans.
Major Responsibilities:
• Working with authors and other content providers to plan, evaluate, and edit digital content for quality, accuracy, and competitive advantage. The Media Editor is responsible for making editorial decisions and directing authors and others to make improvements accordingly.
• Working with media production to launch products, and manage through to go-live dates.
• Hiring content providers and freelance editors/accuracy reviewers/vendors as needed.
• Collaborating with program managers to set project budgets. The Media Editor is responsible for negotiating terms for the content providers of each project.
• Working directly with customers to train, problem solve content issues, and support media products.
• Keeping abreast of pedagogical and market trends; perform competitive analyses.
• Participating in training and professional development activities.
• Working with in-house teams to make content accessible.
• Attending conferences, sales presentations, and company meetings to promote products, gather market information, and meet with potential and current authors and reviewers.
Required Skills / Knowledge:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent editorial judgment and skill
• Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to form productive working relationships with authors, author teams, and in house teams including marketing, acquisitions, editorial, and production
• Strong project management skills, with ability to juggle multiple ongoing projects and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently
• Ability to quickly learn and work in authoring and content management platforms
• Close attention to detail and strong interest in identifying and solving problems
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps
Experience Needed:
• 2 - 3+ years editorial experience
• Previous experience in educational publishing preferred
• Experience in educational technology is a plus
Educational Background Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Economics or Psychology degree is a plus
