Overview
We are currently seeking a creative and motivated Designer to join the HarperCollins Children’s Design team. In this role, the Designer will design covers and interiors for high-profile Young Adult and Middle Grade Children’s books.
Responsibilities
• Organize, concept and execute design and stages of mechanicals for approximately 25 titles a year with guidance from Art Director and Associate Art Director.
• Work collaboratively with members of the Design and Editorial teams on the development of the book from concept to finish.
• Keep projects on a timely schedule and keep supervisor in the loop on projects.
• Design covers and interiors for your assigned projects.
• Color correct with production and editorial teams and attend press oks when possible.
• Archive all projects on time and be aware of production status.
• Provide design support to supervisors, as needed.
• Provide general assistance on special projects, as needed.
• Archive all projects in DAM, keep supervisor informed of project status and keep production status on server updated.
Qualifications
• Minimum 3-5 years of design experience required
• Book cover design experience strongly preferred
• Solid understanding of production process, color correction of proofs, timely routing of materials
• Pre-press experience preferred
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to set priorities under pressure
• Strong Mac skills and design skills using InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
• Ability to work effectively in a team setting
• A strong interest in children’s books
• College degree or equivalent work experience in Graphic Design, Typography, and/or Illustration preferred
