General Summary
The SPE Security, Environmental, Health and Safety Department is currently accepting applications for a regular, full-time Manager, Production Safety, Latin America. This position will be based in Miami, FL and will support the Motion Pictures and Television Production groups in Central and South America, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. Additionally, the position will provide support to SPE productions in the Southeastern US. The position is responsible for ensuring the overall health and safety of the SPE production workforce and the physical safety of production locations and facilities.
Primary responsibilities include the development/implementation/ongoing maintenance of programs necessary to ensure a safe and healthful work environment, ensuring compliance with applicable government regulations relating to occupational safety and health as well as recognized motion picture/TV best management practices and internal SPE Health and Safety Policy and Procedure. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills and be fully bilingual in Spanish and English. Additionally, the ability to speak Portuguese is a benefit. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can work independently with minimal oversight or direct supervision. This position will report to the Executive Director, Production Safety based in Culver City, CA.
Essential Functions of the Job
• Represent SPE SEHS/Production Safety Group to SPE Motion Picture and Television clients in Latin America, Puerto Rico and the South Eastern US.
• Develop and maintain working relationships with production management, acting as a resource for safety and health compliance solutions and guidance.
• In conjunction with SEHS management, develop and assist in the implementation and ongoing maintenance of region specific safety programs to ensure compliance with existing occupation safety and health regulations.
• Liaison with in-country regulatory agencies on behalf of production as necessary.
• Develop and maintain a resource network of EH&S consultants and service providers across the Latin America region.
• Review scripts, call sheets and one liners to identify potential workplace hazards and ensure corrective action or mitigation has been undertaken.
• As necessary, attend location and technical scouts, production meetings, sets and locations and conduct periodic audits of the workplace.
• Have a working understanding of motion picture and television production and how safety and health programs are incorporated into the production environment.
• Have a strong knowledge of occupational safety and health principles.
• Position works independently with minor supervision and oversight.
• Position requires extensive travel within the U.S. and Latin America.
• Must possess and be able to maintain a valid U.S. passport.
Education and Experience
• Graduation from an accredited university, preferably in the field of biology, chemistry, safety management, fire science, industrial hygiene or environmental science preferred.
• 3+ year’s work experience in the field of occupational safety, EH&S, fire science/prevention, or industrial hygiene, preferably for a large and/or international company preferred.
• Professional accreditation, i.e. CSP, CIH, IBOSH/NEBOSH preferred.
• Strong knowledge of occupational safety, fire prevention, structural engineering and industrial hygiene practices preferred.
• Working knowledge of motion picture/TV industry physical production practices and operations.
• Experience working in Latin America is preferred.
Additional Qualifications
• Ability to travel extensively, both domestic and international. Position requires up to 50% travel.
• Ability to read, speak and write Spanish fluently. Fluency in Portuguese is a plus.
• A self-starter with demonstrated ability to develop and achieve measurable goals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A strong communicator who can speak clearly and persuasively.
• Able to work independently with little direct supervision and oversight.
• Excellent time management skills.
