Overview
5NEWS has an immediate opening for Executive Producer to lead the number one newscasts in Northwest Arkansas. This position requires creativity and a passion for telling great stories and covering local news. We’re looking for a leader who can manage newscasts and drive quality storytelling through strong writing and dynamic producing.
This nightside position is responsible for overall supervision of producers and daily news programming. This position requires recruiting and training producers, as well as providing constructive reviews and feedback on a daily basis.
The right candidate will execute the vision and strategy established by News Director, as well as and work closely with the Assistant News Director in planning news coverage, severe weather coverage, and special projects. This person should be able to lead producers in selecting the right stories that matter to a local audience and showcasing content with the best possible elements.
Responsibilities
• Supervise in producing compelling content across multiple platforms.
• Coordinates coverage that is accurate, balanced, relevant, meaningful and imaginative.
• Supervises and coaches all producers, reporters, photographers, editors, assignment editors and production personnel.
• Responsible for the accuracy of all products on all platforms.
• Oversees the look of our newscasts, severe weather coverage, and breaking news
• Demonstrates strong news judgment, ethics and an understanding of legal guidelines.
• Creates and implements strategies to increase demos and engagement across all platforms.
• Manages schedules and overtime.
• Embraces personal accountability in your role as a leader. Shows an attention to detail and exhibits a willingness to chip in and help.
• Exhibits a positive attitude, adaptability to change, and a willingness to master technological advancements that haven’t been invented yet.
• Provides regular feedback, both formal and informal, including annual evaluations for direct reports.
• Communicates and collaborates with the rest of the management team, facilitating effective hand-offs from one shift to the next, collaborating with strategic planning and long-range goal setting.
• Help in news tease writing strategies.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant News Director or News Director
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 3-5 years producing experience necessary, management experience preferred
• Must be a self-starter and highly organized
• Proven ability to build a cohesive, high-performing staff and work teams and to develop the skills and nurture growth of staff members.
• Impeccable journalistic integrity and editorial judgment required.
• Advanced story writing and tease writing skills
• Manage follow up story ideas
• Must understand social media and how to tell stories on multiple platforms
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including mornings, nights, weekends and holidays
• Ability to work under extreme pressure and deadlines
• Must be willing to submit to a background check
• Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States
