Developer (Looker, BigQuery, SQL)
We are looking for a Junior Developer to join Hearst Magazines Digital Media. This role will be embedded in a team whose mission is to enable Hearst Magazines Digital Media with data across content, product/tech, video, e-commerce, sales/marketing, ad product, and revenue initiatives.
Hearst Magazines Digital Media reaches more than 100 million people around the world every month on digital platforms connected to loved and trusted brands like Cosmopolitan, Delish, Esquire, Elle, Runner’s World, and 29 television stations.
The ideal candidate is hyper data-focused, perhaps a former analyst, who has graduated from basic analytics tools in order to start answering harder questions. They have mastered Excel long time ago, they are a pro user of BI tools like Tableau and Domo, they can write, interpret, and optimize SQL across dialects, and they have started to delve into Python, YAML, JSON, R, etc.
We use Looker in-house and we are looking for somebody to manage the entire Looker stack, including the administrative aspects, software layer (LookML), reporting, and API integrations. We also use Google’s suite of enterprise software, from BigQuery to DFP to Analytics to AdWords to Optimize, and we expect this role to be our day-to-day manager of these tools for the business. We are also building new data products that leverage advanced data modeling and AI (both home-grown and off-the-shelf), and this hire will play a key role in the development and QA of custom data models, pipelines, and APIs to support these products.
This role will be exposed to a broad set of business and technology initiatives and will work with software developers, product managers, data scientists, and business/editorial teams. The role is based out of our Emmaus, PA office. Being self-directed and comfortable multitasking is a must.
Responsibilities for Junior Developer
Provide a range of reporting and analytics required by the various business groups within Hearst Magazines Digital Media.
Query and model data on an ad hoc basis from wide variety of data sources that use SQL, GCP and AWS ‘big data’ technologies.
Prototype new ETLs or data models on raw datasets as needed for new reporting and product development needs.
Use Looker or custom tools to build analytics and reporting to provide actionable insights into content, e-commerce and video performance, platform/operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics.
Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their analytics needs.
Qualifications for Junior Developer
Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
Expertise with BI tools including Looker, Tableau, Domo, and Google Data Studio.
Experience working with ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
Experience with enterprise software including Google DoubleClick for Publishers, Google Analytics, Google Optimize, Google AdWords, Salesforce, Lotame, Facebook Ads, etc.
Strong analytical skills.
Strong project management and organizational skills.
Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
3+ years of experience in a Data Analyst / Developer role, preferably in a technology or media company.
