Production Director - 3rd Party Publications
A Production Director – 3rd Party Publications is responsible for the successful layout and manufacturing of assigned publications which are owned by third parties or categorized as “Assets Held for Sale”. In these instances, Meredith has a relationship with the third party to perform some or all production operations on the publications. This position will lead and managing a team of magazine production managers whose responsibilities may include; managing all positioning requests/activity, leading the book make-up process, issuing instructions to print facilities, responding to production related questions and requests, resolving manufacturing issues as they arise, forecasting manufacturing and distribution costs, monthly cost variance analysis and preparation of each issue’s monthly billing packet. The Production Director will standardize process controls, communication protocol and best practices across all brands under their responsibility. This position must develop and direct initiatives that reduce cost, improve efficiency, and mitigate risk.
Essential Job Functions
20% - Oversee magazine production for entire group ensuring magazines are efficiently produced error-free at the lowest possible cost given the specification requirements of each title/issue. Perform daily production tasks on titles as needed.
20% - Direct, lead and/or participate in projects which; reduce cost, improve efficiency, and mitigate risk in the book makeup and print manufacturing process.
20% - Actively engage in day-to-day production related problems/issues effectively utilizing staff to develop and implement solutions.
15% - Manage print suppliers to ensure they are meeting and/or exceeding performance criteria for print production including print quality, timely delivery, and superior customer service.
15% - Support senior management, publishers, sales, edit staffs, agencies, and clients as needed as it relates to magazine production.
10% - Other responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements| All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
10+ years of experience in Print Production; preferably magazine production.
Experience managing multiple production teams.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong leadership skills.
Requires working knowledge of book makeup, advertising services and printing process.
Vendor management experience.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
% Travel Required (Approximate): 10%
