Production Editor - Berkley
Penguin Random House is seeking a Production Editor to join our Berkley Production Editorial team! The Production Editor will manage production of genre fiction titles throughout the various stages from manuscript to bound books, as well as perform quality control on ePub files and copyedit and proofread book covers.
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Managing assigned manuscripts/projects from the initial manuscript stage through production, including overseeing manuscript copyediting and styling/coding manuscripts for design
2. Reviewing page proofs for accuracy, quality, consistency, and page makeup. Coordinating author/proofreader reviews of proofs and collating corrections
3. Copyediting and proofreading book covers and marketing materials
4. Performing quality control of Netgalley files and ePub files
5. Hiring and supervising freelance copyeditors and proofreaders and reviewing their work
6. Coordinating schedules with freelancers, editors, and production
7. Handling text, cover, and eBook corrections for backlist reprints and repackages
Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:
• Must have at least three years of production editorial experience
• Excellent copyediting, proofreading, and organizational skills
• Familiarity with electronic copyediting using Microsoft Word, and experience with manuscript styling/coding
• Detail oriented, with an ability to work well under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Familiarity with digital products including experience with ePub files
• Knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition, a plus
