Job Description
TEGNA Media is looking for a Commerce Content Manager to build & lead a new initiative within the organization that finds the best deals on the Internet to help save our audience money. TEGNA Media owns 47 television stations in 39 markets and is the largest independent owner of NBC & CBS stations in top 25 markets.
The ideal candidate will be a leader who has built & run a content-driven commerce operation for a digital media company or brand. The candidate should have a passion for finding the best deals, reviewing the pros and cons of various products, and sharing their enthusiasm with the audience like a trusted friend. They will also have experience recruiting & managing a team of staff writers & freelancers, as well as directing social video producers.
Commerce content includes everything from incredible deals on must-have products, to new & interesting items that just hit the market, to evergreen recommendations for everyday consumer needs. You will use data, guidance from TEGNA’s digital leadership, an editorial calendar, relationships with business partners & your own intuition to determine the products to feature in TEGNA’s commerce content on our websites and social platforms.
TEGNA will generate revenue from your content when our audience on site & across our social platforms purchases the products that are featured.
Position can be based at our Washington, DC area headquarters or at one of our large market television stations.
The day-to-day
• Create content that makes product recommendations, identifies compelling deals, & drives consumer interest
• Assign commerce content to a team of staff writers & freelancers for publication on TEGNA’s websites, apps and social accounts
• Research products, accessories, online courses, novelty items, entertainment merchandise & other things that are worth our audience’s time & money
• Track KPIs for commerce content to report to leadership, make informed programming decisions & shape commerce strategy
• Work with TEGNA’s central content team to ensure promotion for commerce content across our network of local news properties
Job Requirements
Must Haves
• At least 3-4 years of professional writing experience & a desire to find the best deals & products around the web
• Experience building and/or running a commerce operation for a digital media brand
• Experience managing content teams & collaborating with senior management
• Strong understand of search engine optimization best practices and techniques
• A firm grasp on the business side of media & a passion for driving performance
• Proficiency in Web Analytics
• Flawless grammar, spelling, & usage
• Basic level understanding of Photoshop & working in Content Management Systems
