The Senior Learning Designer will be part of an elite team dedicated to innovating on research-based approaches to content design in order to optimize learning within Pearson’s next generation of evidence-based, global technology products. The Senior Learning Designer will collaborate with product managers, portfolio managers, product model managers, user-experience designers, and researchers on a portfolio of technology products that includes platforms, underlying systems, learning applications, courseware, content collections, mobile solutions, and adaptive learning environments.

The Senior Learning Designer will be responsible for six key functions:
• Create evidence-based design recommendations for the design of content within digital next gen learning experiences, incorporating education research, teaching and learning models, and discipline context in collaboration with others in a range of job functions such as education design researchers, learning scientists, UX designers, editorial managers, product managers, and content developers (45%)
• Participate in product ideation, innovation, and iteration (20%)
• Build learning design capacity within the organization through training and initiatives involving educative design. (15%)
• Participate in the learner validation, and subsequent iteration, of concepts to support the optimization of product components and learning capabilities through content design within titles (10%)
• Contribute to other design, development, research, and evaluation tasks, as needed (10%)
The Senior Learning Designer must be an independent and technically-adept problem-solver, who can juggle multiple high-volume responsibilities with great autonomy and initiative in a remote environment, while always demonstrating exceptional communication skills and a solution-oriented attitude amidst a dynamic climate of rapid change. This position requires strong project management expertise, exceptional virtual office skills, and outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Pearson Learning & Experience Design utilizes a dynamic model of flexible capacity in which this position may be requested to lead or contribute to other development efforts depending upon product release schedules. Thus, preference will be given to candidates with complementary skills in diversified areas related to online learning, innovation, and assessment.
Qualifications
• Master’s degree or higher in Learning Science, Cognitive Psychology, Educational Technology, Educational Psychology, Human Factors, Instructional Design, Assessment, Learning Design, Curriculum Design, or related field required
• Minimum of three years participating in the design of learning technology, software, or learning environments.
• Significant experience gathering and applying peer-reviewed scholarly research and user research
• Previous instructional design and user-centered design testing experience preferred
• Previous online and/or classroom teaching experience preferred but not sufficient
• Skills/knowledge/abilities:
• Deep and demonstrated knowledge of learning design principles from cognitive psychology and allied fields
• Demonstrated experience synthesizing and applying research from the learning sciences to product design in clear, tangible, documented ways
• Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based, learner-centered design processes, techniques, and tools
• Demonstrated experience participating in the design of learner interfaces and learner experiences
• Demonstrated experience designing assessment within digital learning experiences
• Demonstrated experience creating design concepts and lightweight prototypes
• Demonstrated experience collaborating effectively in highly matrixed, dispersed, cross-functional teams
• Demonstrated experience contributing to complex technology systems with numerous stakeholders and requirements
• Demonstrated experience applying design thinking to learning experience designs.
