National Hog Farmer Content Director
National Hog Farmer is seeking a new Editor to cover the vibrant, and ever-changing swine industry. The ideal candidate will have a passion for agriculture, swine and sharing information with producers. This person will be home-based but work closely with the Farm Progress executive director of content and user engagement; and will be part of an extensive editorial team that covers the country.
Key responsibilities for this position include covering major industry events, exploring new research on the many aspects of swine production, and writing about successful swine producers who are making a difference in the industry. The National Hog Farmer reader is a savvy swine producer aiming to keep improving his or her operation.
This position also requires high-level writing skills (please provide at least three samples of your most recent work), solid photography skills (please provide at least three samples), and an understanding of the role of social media and digital publishing in engaging the reader. This brand has a loyal social media following that engages on a regular basis.
Responsibilities include:
• Create content for use in daily e-newsletters (which is posted online) and for print.
• Manage freelance contributors for this market, by assigning stories and editing their content.
• Plan print issues, developing future story ideas and working with state and regional experts to cover the most important topics in the region.
• Work with content and art production teams in Illinois to develop both website and print products.
• Collaborate with other Farm Progress editors as needed to cover key topics for the region.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Ag Communications, English or related discipline from a four-year college or university.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of business writing and editorial experience required, preferably within the agricultural or natural resources industry.
• Must be a proficient photographer, able to photograph farmers and agricultural conditions.
• Must be proficient in MS Office, Outlook.
• Must possess people management skills and experience.
• Must be highly organized, detail oriented and able to meet demanding deadlines.
