Requirements
Position Description:
To market forthcoming titles from Macmillan’s trade publishing groups and distributed publishing clients to public librarians in the United States.
Major Responsibilities:
• Establish and maintain a presence on select social media platforms through content creation and communication with librarians.
• Post updates daily on departmental web site including but not limited to news and reviews about forthcoming and recently released titles, upcoming event information, contests and general silliness.
• Design and write monthly e-newsletter.
• Communicate with Twitter followers about blog content and day to day activities of the department.
• Keep pulse on library market – policy changes and other relevant industry news.
• Prepare for and attend four-five large librarian conferences a year (ie: ALA Midwinter, TxLA, BEA, ALA Annual, PLA). Ship and track supplies and galleys selected by the Director for giveaway during each conference. Arrive early and set up an exhibitor's booth. Manage the booth during all open expo hall hours. Attend important panels on the changing landscape of the library market. Attend and assist with Macmillan author events, meals, and panels. Report back on conference activities and take-aways to the sales force.
• Send galleys (both print and electronic) to interested librarians. Offer assistance to librarians interested in downloading e-galleys via NetGalley or Edelweiss. Manage all requests to be whitelisted on Edelweiss and recommend titles to newly whitelisted librarians. Ship galleys to librarians as they are requested, the award committees, and to influential librarians and library bloggers.
• Attend the in-office launch meetings of all of Macmillan's publishers and distributed publishers to become familiar with upcoming books. Attend meetings to plan for shared events with other large publishing houses.
• Act as a liaison between librarians and publicists in the initial steps of author event planning. Collect information from librarians about potential events and gauge publicist and author interest in those events.
• Create and execute special projects, including but not limited to outreach to City-wide reads programs, under the guidance of the Senior Director.
• Oversee activities of Library Marketing Assistant / YA Specialist.
Required Skills / Knowledge:
• Strong oral and written communication skills with an original and department-appropriate voice
• Strong digital and physical organizational skills
• Strong self-starter with good time management and project prioritization skills
• Flexible and ready to attend to priorities of the Senior Director
• Low maintenance traveler
• Fast reader
Experience Needed:
• 5 + years marketing and or other relevant experience in book publishing
Educational Background Required:
• Bachelor’s degree
