Supervisor, Media Editor - Spectrum News NY1
Spectrum News NY1 is available on channels 1 and 200 for Spectrum customers throughout New York City’s five boroughs. Spectrum News NY1 serves Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island and provides 24-hour local news, politics, features and weather seven days a week. The network is also available on Cablevision systems in Brooklyn and the Bronx on channel 8, on Bright House systems in Central Florida on channel 1210, in Hudson Valley (New York) on channel 1, and in North Carolina on channel 215.

THE ENVIRONMENT
Spectrum News is a 24-hour breaking news network which requires employees who are flexible and available to work various shift, including early morning, late evenings, weekends and holidays.

SUMMARY
This position is responsible for Media department administrative duties, and handles the troubleshooting of technical issues, ensuring that Spectrum networks maintain the highest level of quality control. This position reports directly to the Operation Manager for Spectrum News
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage advanced network of video storage systems
• Establish and enforce archive and video retention policy for entire network
• Establish and maintain new procedures and work standards for ingest staff
• Work directly with recruitment staff for the screening, interviewing and hiring of new staff
• Develop training protocol and documentation for the training of new employees
• Oversee development of new employee progress, and cross training opportunities for current staff
• Review discrepancy reports, investigate and troubleshoot discrepancies in collaboration with direct reports, engineering and editorial departments
• Manage schedule needs for Ingest department, including vacation and sick day requests
• Manage Kronos Timekeeper system for direct reports
• Conduct annual and semi-annual performance evaluation for direct reports
• Collaborate with editorial, engineering, and operational staff for successful completion of productions, projects, and new initiatives
• Fill in as needed as Media/Ingest operator
• Cross-train in other operational areas.
• Develop working knowledge of other department’s workflows.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Minimum two year degree in related discipline or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience
• At least 3-5 years’ experience in media ingest environment
• Demonstrable PC/MAC computer experience
• Thorough knowledge of broadcast automation systems
• Thorough knowledge of video file compression
• Thorough knowledge of network topology
• Thorough knowledge of video storage and FTP transport
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment
• Ability to work non-traditional hours, weekends and holidays
• Good oral and written communication skills
