Quality Analyst
I. Job Summary
| Major goals and objectives.
Evaluate prepress separations and mark up color for print or digital reproduction of assigned print publications and products. Troubleshoot reproduction problems related to both prepress and printing processes. Work directly with internal customers to understand needs and ensure expectations are met. Quality Analyst will consistently perform at a level that meets or exceeds performance standards.

Work with assigned creative staffs to evaluate prepress separations, in both soft and hard proof environments. Interpret customer needs and instructions and mark up proofs with specific RGB corrections; serve as liaison between creative staffs and Desktop Operators, Print Premedia to ensure images meet established quality standards. Evaluate original art for reproduction quality concerns and perform color corrections, if needed.

Participate in development and documentation of Premedia workflows and identifying process improvement opportunities. Includes participation in departmental Strategic Initiatives that will increase group effectiveness and scalability.

Work with print vendors to establish and maintain quality standards related to reproduction. Troubleshoot reproduction problems for both the Premedia and printing processes. Perform industry research and provide recommendations for improving processes and upgrading technology.

Operate all equipment, including Epson proofers and color-calibrated monitors, and perform all processes required to produce the items in the department's product line in a manner that ensures quality and efficiency. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment post-implementation and -installation and lead ongoing proofer and monitor calibration efforts, as needed.

Assist in maintaining operation's accounting procedures, including daily tracking of jobs, schedule adherence, time spent per job/piece of work, and image/proof cycle reporting.

III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements
| All must be met to be considered.
Education:
College degree in Graphic Arts. Will accept equivalent work experience. Technical training in Graphic Arts, digital content creation, and color correction.
Experience:
At least 3 years experience color correcting and proofing on magazines or catalogs, preferably with a major magazine printer and/or premedia facility. Experience or exposure to web and digital publication image and content production is a plus.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of four-color process, including knowledge of industry standards of SWOP, UCR, and GCR. Must have knowledge of Macintosh operating system; inkjet proofers; and Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator. Exposure to workflow management systems, such as WoodWing and K4, a plus. Must know how to create custom color curves based upon provided material to achieve printed results. Knowledge of the printing and design of books and magazines. Excellent organization and communication skills. Must be able to work well under pressure and very tight deadlines and assume responsibility. Must be able to work well with creative people and take subjective color instruction from art directors and convert into digital data manipulation. Requires working on computers in low-light situations for extended time periods.
