Executive Director, Finance - Television Distribution
Sony Pictures Television Distribution is one of the television industry’s leading content providers. It distributes programming in every genre, including series, telefilms, theatrical releases and family entertainment around the world and for every platform: broadcast and cable television, first-run and off-network syndication and digital distribution.
The Executive Director, Finance is responsible for quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, multi year plans and financial packages for month end/year-end tracking and analysis. This includes preparing schedules and reports for revenue tracking and cash forecasting, modeling ultimates, providing financial analysis for specific markets, deals, and/or key product categories, and providing information requests as directed.
Responsibilities
• Oversee the preparation of the financial budgets, quarterly forecasts, and MRP functions. Review production assumptions, provide financial analysis for markets and product category, provide roll forward variance analysis, reconcile sales budget schedules & calculate revenue impact, review ultimates, adjust timing models, manage P&L passes to product owners and perform foreign exchange analysis on local currency deals. Develop and maintain strong relationships with Non-Finance executives to ensure their financial support needs are met. Prepare financial presentations.
• Track performance relative to budgets and forecasts. Review actual results and concisely explain variances against budgets and forecasts based on territory, market and deal, and key product categories. Liaise with accounting team to improve availability and flow of information. Assist with the preparation of the monthly/quarterly CEO financial results presentations and participate in executive review meetings.
• Prepare quarterly tax forecasts. This involves working closely with accounting and GTO to ensure tax and corporate requirements are met for individual licensing entities/territories.
• Prepare ultimate models to provide operational decision support for features and TV show P&L’s.
• Quarterly film model analysis and executive review. Assist in the preparation of the film model to predict future theatrical release utlimates. This involves working closely with both US and International sales planning groups.
• Directly support operating management with financial modeling and trend analysis.
• Develop team members’ careers and professional development.
• Drive continual improvement in budget and forecasting processes. Develop and refine reports that provide actionable insight into the levers of the business.
Requirements
Experience:
• 10+ years Distribution Finance experience is required, most in Entertainment Industry / Media experience required, Television preferred.
• 5+ years Management experience is required, including managing, developing and leading staff in multiple locations, as well as optimizing and re-organizing teams to most effectively meet business needs.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance is required.
• MBA and/or CPA preferred.
Skills:
• Excellent communication skills especially with non-Finance individuals.
• Strong financial modeling.
• Solid business acumen and problem solving skills.
• Experience with TV Production and TV Distribution license agreements.
• Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects.
• Strong follow-through on all projects; ability to bring projects to timely completion.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Critical thinker with excellent written and verbal communication, and executive meeting presence, and is able to communicate effectively with senior operational and financial management.
• Strong organization skills, attention to detail and accuracy.
