Job Summary
As part of the Architecture & Engineering IP VPN organization, the Senior Network Engineer will support one of the world’s largest MPLS networks. The Senior Network Engineer will primarily focus on provider core and edge devices and will be expected to be an expert in a myriad of vendors/technologies: Alcatel Lucent, Juniper, Cisco, BGP, MPLS, IS-IS, etc. Expert, hands-on, familiarity with one or more of these vendors is required (preference given to Alcatel/Juniper). The Senior Engineer will lead complex projects that enable new product introduction as well as network optimizations. Lastly, the Senior Engineer will proactively identify areas for network improvement and will drive these changes by leveraging peers and other organizations.
Job Description
• Working independently under limited supervision, plans, designs, develops, and implements network engineering plans and wide-scale networks for customers.
• Develops design documentation and training in support of network configurations and new technology introductions.
• Provides technical support in customer interaction situations, including design, test, and service requests.
• Works collaboratively with stakeholder organizations on project-oriented assignments to define and implement network design standards and best practices.
• Identifies and develops requirements for the IT organization for provisioning, inventory, and billing functionality.
• Debugs and tests networks, plans projects, and performs needs assessments.
• Regarded as Subject Matter Expert for complete services or service families.
• An experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization.
• Competent in resolving issues in primary area of expertise.
• A sound understanding of telecommunications and data networking principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly professional and self motivated with the ability to work well independently and on a team.
• Good troubleshooting skills and methodologies.
• Experienced in analyzing issues, distilling and communicating their relevant aspects.
• Ability to work multiple efforts and projects in parallel.
• Emerging leadership and mentoring skills.
• Ability to proactively identify risks/issues and develop recommendations for resolution.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and other shifts as required to provide support for network activities.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience
• 12 + years related experience
• 8 years with Master's
