Requirements
We are looking for an Release Plan Manager / Agile Program Manager that can lead mission critical initiatives that sit at the heart of the Macmillan Learning digital strategy. As a Program manager you will be part of a team that will lead the strategic program that consists of multiple large scale initiatives running simultaneously.
Reporting through the PMO, the ideal candidate will draw upon exemplary program / project management, critical thinking, and problem solving skills, with a passion for creating reliable, maintainable, value based systems inside of a software development environment.
Experience inside an agile development organization is a must as this person will need to have affinity towards providing value to the organization and the customer. Not only strong at multi-tasking and self directed, you should be striving for continuous process improvement, and effective collaboration with cross-functional business and software development teams.
Key Responsibilities:
• Partner with Agile coach and ScrumMasters to foster an environment of successful delivery and continuous improvement
• Gathering of project data and production of information for management review
• Managing and facilitating the portfolio management process
• Facilitate change management and communication planning activities through project lifecycle
• Assess the workloads and impacts for different departments, identify and track dependencies and risks across teams.
• Facilitate release coordination across engineering teams, governing cadence and communication of release cycles
• Schedules and facilitates meetings to update business operations on project statuses and production issues. (Ex. Steering Committees)
• Assisting in quarterly planning sessions across product and engineering groups, aligning outcomes to business cases, tracking dependencies, and consolidating risks.
• Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration, and commitment across multiple disparate groups with competing priorities.
Qualifications:
• Experience in scoping, timeline creation, project tracking, risk management, dependency mapping, and process improvement. Good at managing expectations about risks, issues, resourcing and timeframes.
• Relevant experience of 3-5 years, include managing a large portfolio of products (1+ years)
• Experience in working inside or with agile software development teams (3-5 years)
• Strategic thinker with the ability to transform goals into actionable plans
• Experience in all gamuts of software development lifecycle, seeking history of being hands-on in delivery of products from inception to production
• Track record of successfully building digital business
• Understanding of scaled enterprise agile frameworks (ex. SAFe, DaD,)
• Strong leader with integrity and business acumen
• Strong presentation and communication skills
• Experience with JIRA and JIRA Portfolio is a plus
• Primarily based in Austin with approximately 10% travel to New York
