Job Description
KHOU-TV , one of the top CBS affiliates in the country is looking for a News Operations Manager to determine the future direction of KHOU news operations by championing the implementation of new technologies and workflows in the news environment. These technologies include but are not limited to, live studio broadcasts, on-air operation of Master Control, and digital content distribution. The ideal candidate will possess the creativity and skills to contribute to visually compelling, fast-paced newscasts and programming.
Responsibilities:
• Supervise news video editing, remote broadcast/electronic newsgathering areas, and newscast directors.
• Cross train news staff on various aspects of video productions as needed.
• Work with the Broadcast Technology department to evaluate new newsgathering technology
• Oversee planning and use of news technology including newsroom News Production Systems (ENPS), video editing systems (Adobe Premiere), and News Content Management (Bitcentral). Manage applications for election, traffic and weather reporting systems.
• Act as primary liaison/coordinator for network & affiliate news requests, and point of contact for news logistics & facilities with external relationships including news bureaus, remote camera and weather station locations.
Initiate and approve requests as appropriate for the purchase, replacement, or repair of equipment and services.
• Champion implementation of new technologies and workflows in the news environment.
• Planning and management of the TV News operating and capital budgets in coordination with News Director
• Helps to determine the future direction of KHOU news operations through regular and clear communications with News Director, fellow Department Heads, senior staff leaders, and employees.
• Initiates requests for the purchase, replacement, or repair of equipment for workgroup, and participates in budget process when appropriate. Completes required paperwork in an appropriate and timely fashion.
• Troubleshoot technical issues as needed.
• Work as primary liaison between Broadcast Technology Dept. and newsroom personnel to implement and maintain equipment.
• Give input on news coverage.
• Complete specific projects as requested by the TV News Director.
Job Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.
• Previous experience in electronic news gathering operations preferred.
• Able to sit, utilize tools or controls; talk or hear, to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crawl or crouch.
• Able to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
• Special vision abilities required for this job include distant, close, and peripheral vision.
• Ability to work with a flexible schedule a must; may require some nights, weekends, and holidays, and outside in varying weather conditions.
• Must be willing to be called in for emergencies.
• College degree, technical degree, or equivalent experience required.
