Job Description

We are looking for an AP Specialist with strong problem solving and analytical skills for our Accounts Payable department located in Fishers, IN, to support TEGNA business units with vendor maintenance, invoices processing, and other AP payment requests. The AP Specialist will also provide quality customer service to vendors, business units, and customers.
Responsibilities:
• Provide accurate responses and quality customer service while maintaining strong working relationships with vendors, customers and sites.
• Coordinate flow of invoices in BasWare by working through Unprocessed, Returned, Cancelled, and Ready for Transfer queues for assigned sites daily.
• Process invoices daily from BasWare ThinClient queue in a timely manner.
• Transfer invoices from BasWare to Lawson. Perform final check of all invoices to ensure coding is reasonable, approval requirements are met, and sales tax is properly accrued.
• Perform accurate vendor maintenance: create new vendors, maintain existing vendors, and conduct vendor exports. Identify duplicate or inactive vendors, miscoded vendor classes and income codes, or opportunities for electronic payment (ACH or PCard).
• Specialized work that could include daily check run, special handling, PCard transactions, voids, recurring payments, scanning, returned checks, vendor database cleanup.
• Respond to site & vendor inquiries regarding payables.
• Address email inquiries from NSSC AP mailbox and 1-800 telephone line.
• Conduct payables and vendor research (Examples: obtain W-9s, audit vendor statements, validate banking information, process voids or cancellations, verify AP135’s, etc).
• Process records in the exception queue of Scan One Online Document Center (ODC) daily to resolve issues preventing the flow and routing of invoices for payment.
• Perform other duties as required including special projects.
Job Requirements
Requirements:
• High school degree / GED is required.
• 1-2 years of accounts payable experience in an automated environment required. Shared service experience preferred.
• Good problem solving, organizational, time management, interpersonal and communication skills. Detailed oriented.
• Good knowledge of accounting policies and procedures, and use tax application experience.
• Desire, ability and curiosity to investigate and recommend improvements to processes, procedures, and technology.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience in an AS/400 environment is preferred but not required.
